Danelectro Fab Tone
Question: I was thinking of looking for one of these on ebay because I know Stewart Braithwaite from Mogwai uses one. I want to get a 'wall of sound' thing happening when I get an amp (hopefully a Twin Reverb or something similar). Is that what the pedal sounds like? Does anyone have one? I currently have a Marshall ShredMaster and I'm looking for something that will sound different that I can use alongside the ShredMaster. Answer: I used to have it, and it cirtanly can make some ugly sounds, but I really really enjoyed that pedal. I know thesteve has one if you have any questoins. Answer: mmm...Fabtone...I've never had mine up loud enough to test the wall of sound concept...but I certain did like it as an all-around distortion box. The Fabtone is a very gainy distortion. I actually stopped using it for a few weeks to try out a BOSS DS-1. So far I've found the DS-1 to be less noisy, but I'm not sure if it's as good as the Fabtone was. I've never heard or used a Shredmaster so I couldn't really tell you how the two compare. I've read that alot of Braithwaite's sound just comes from him turning his amp(s?) up to absurd volume levels. Here's what I can say about the Fabtone. I picked mine up off of eBay for under $20 USD. I don't know how AUD ends up working out, but I know that when I purchased the Fabtone I felt that it was a very low risk investment, and I know that it's definitely been worth what I paid for it and will probably be a pedal I keep for awhile. Heck, this thread inspires me to put it back into my stage rig. Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.thanktoday.com
