New Modeling Processor
Question: Ok, well, my parents have told me that they would get me a new multi-effect modeling processor for Christmas. They don't want to spend over $300 on it. They'll be buying from a Long & Mcquade nearby. I've been playing around with the RP350 at the store and I like it a lot. I don't need something as fancy as the PODxt Live, just an upgrade from my RP80. Are there any other good ones out there that I should be trying out? Answer: Do you use the Amp models on the RP as well as the effects, or just the effects? The Boss ME-50 is a multi effect unit($250 I think), that has a LOT of effects, but no amp modeling. My brother just got a new RP-150 and it's pretty nice, (that coming from an analog snob, haha) Some of the 'verbs are disgustingly good. And the RP-350 would have way more than the RP-150....so....if you like your RP-80, just really suped up...the RP-350 would def be a good way to go....they're even made in the USA. The ME-50 does have quite a few amp models actually. Most them just aren't very good. There are a few good ones though. The "Stack" one is pretty freakin awesome! Answer: I don't think those are amp models, but just distortion models. IIRC. Answer: If I had that much money to spend, I would probably buy a used XTL. You might want to try out the new Zoom G series processors. Answer: Originally Posted by Building429_Boy I don't think those are amp models, but just distortion models. IIRC. That's true. I didn't think of that. I am pretty sure you are correct. Answer: Ok, I use the effects as well as the amp models. I just find that my RP80's variety of amp models isn't all too great and that's the only place I get my tone. I've checked out the Zoom series and it's pretty decent. Are any of Line 6's PODs any good? Answer: Originally Posted by akaukal Ok, I use the effects as well as the amp models. Are any of Line 6's PODs any good? I've certainly been pretty impressed w/ them. They will require some tweaking time, they will probably not sound good right out of the box, but I have heard some pretty amazing stuff come out of them. I am in the process of acquiring a used one, which I would suggest you do. Answer: Originally Posted by akaukal Ok, I use the effects as well as the amp models. Are any of Line 6's PODs any good? Yup, got my XTL for $200. I'm very impressed. No regrets at all. Answer: Originally Posted by Building429_Boy Yup, got my XTL for $200. I'm very impressed. My parents are going to be buying from a local store and I'm not sure if it would have a used XTL. They're not big on buying online either. If I can find one, I'll definetly go for it, but if I can't get one, I think I'm going to go for the RP350 or one of the new Zoom pedals. Answer: Just beware the regret bug... Answer: Originally Posted by Rainer. Just beware the regret bug... I like the new RP series but I would have a hard time spending $200 on the RP350 when I could get a used XTL for $50 more. If, like you said, you don't need anything fancy, I would just get the RP150 for $99. It has the same processor as the 350 with a few less bells and whistles. Then you would have another $100 to spend on something else or to buy the next RP upgrade in 4-5 years (these processors do seem to become obsolete about as fast as personal computers.) As a very happy owner of a used PODxt Live, I would suggest that you try to get one used. It may take some patience, but if you can find one used in good condition (like myself), it would be very worth it! You may not be able to find one at a local store, but check classifieds...or maybe people at your churh, or pawn shops, etc. One word of caution, however, if you are buying used, bring someone who knows the product well (and can adequately test it to make sure it all works). I purchased mine from a fellow CGRer about a week ago, so I felt pretty comfortable buying it. I paid $150 (very generous seller)...so good deals do exist out there.
