I finally got it...a Zoom506III multi-effect bass pedal. This thing works wonders. The distortion channel is awesome, reverb and chorus are good, plus it imitates a whole bunch of popular amps. Who knew I could turn my crappy P-bass copy into a monster with this thing? Amazing.

I've never been a fan of using any effects on my basses except for a bit of OD.

One bassist I know has the POD XT live for Basses and loves it. I know another that has a roland cube bass and loves that. I think they use them more for the amp modeling than for the effects but I'm not totally sure.
