Pedal Tuners
Question: Before I really get into building a pedal collection, I kind of want a pedal tuner. The built-in one isn't very good. The Fender PT100 looks good, and it's about my price range, but the Boss one seems to be the most popular. Are there reasons why I shouldn't get the Fender? Answer: FWIW, and I might be the only one out there like this, but my TU-2 is really sketchy sometimes. The input jack is a little messed up and occasionally causes an unbearable hum. It's a fixable but chronic problem for me. I'm probably the only person I know with this problem. I think I just managed to get ahold of a dud somewhere and will probably just deal with it. I've been thinking about picking up a second TU-2 to use exclusively with my bass rig for awhile now anyway. Honestly, it's hard to argue the price as the Fender unit is $40 less, but I'd probably go with the TU-2 or the Korg DT-10 over the Fender based on reputation alone...though I use my tuner for both guitar and bass and I'm probably just not totally sure the PT-100 will handle a low B string. Answer: I have a behringer, it's plastic yes, and i am normally the one to say "i freaking hate plastic pedals" but it's a tuner so i don't have to stomp it hard to ensure the on and off turning during the middle of a song, i love it... Answer: I have a Fender PT100, and it works very well. It was cheap, and it's true bypass too. Answer: oh yeah, my behringer is also true bypass... Answer: Ok. Then I will probably get the Fender. It probably won't be for a little while yet, so if anyone has anything negative to say... Answer: Originally Posted by ibanez_dude I have a Fender PT100, and it works very well. A volume pedal would work for isolating the pedal from the system via a tuner out (like an EB VP Jr.). I actually thought I had fixed the problem with my tuner. it cropped up again this last week. Really all it requires is for the input jack nut to be screwed back into place. I may get a volume pedal for my guitar rig eventually anyway. With my bass rig, I try to work as small as possible, so I usually don't even have a tuner in line, however I just replaced my bass strings on Sunday so I've been using a tuner until everything gets stretched out. Peterson is trying to have good marketing. The other guy never checked out the Fender PT100. He tried the PT10, but not the PT100. I don't know why Fender has done much marketing about (lol, maybe they don't want people to think about the fact that their other pedals aren't true bypass ), but I have tested it and whatnot. I took out the battery and unplugged it from my OneSpot, and my chain still worked. Answer: Originally Posted by ibanez_dude Peterson is trying to have good marketing. On the bypass output I believe the signal should always go through regardless of the pedal being powered or not. I haven't tried this with the TU-2, but I tihnk this should still be the case. If I remember, maybe I'll try i tout tonight. Ultimately, I'm a firm believer that TB is overrated. Alot of people are hung up on TB vs. buffered, but really, if it worked, then it works. The Fender PT-100 is actually one of the pedals I've thought about getting to replace my TU-2 (or to use on my bass), however the TU-2 has been getting me by when I keep it in working order. Answer: I've got two of the Boss pedal tuners. I bought them both used and have had no problem with them. They do a decent enough job, have been very reliable, and though I can hear a little change in the sound, it's not something I've obsessed over. The one issue I have is that on outdoor shows in bright sunlight, it is very difficult to see the LEDs. A friend of mine built a little plastic hood for his that helped, I'll probably end up doing the same. Answer: maybe i got confused because the pedal says "bypass".... I honlestly don't know the difference... Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.thanktoday.com
