Removing tubes for lower wattage?
Question: I've heard about doing this. I've been a bit curious about how that actually worked. Like... do you just take out one of the power tubes? Does it matter which one you take out? This is something I might actually like to try in my DeVille. Just to see what happens. Answer: It will not decrease volume in your case. It is possible when you're amp is running on 4 power tubes. I own a Deluxe, which I believe has the same amount of tubes as a Deville (since they're almost the same amp...) All it will do will distort your sound, and in a nutshell sound really bad. It does work on amps that runs on set of 2 pairs of power tubes or more though because all you have to do is pull 1 pair out. But running on 1 power tube just won't work. Answer: Kato's right, you can't pull any tubes from that amp. Check out the other thread in this forum about the THD Yellow Jackets - they will lower the amp's output roughly in half, same as pulling a pair of output tubes from a 4 output tube amp. Be aware though, that half the power only yields a drop in volume of 3 db, which is not a huge drop. Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.thanktoday.com
