Single Effect pedal; distortion
Question: Hey peeps, what your favorite SINGLE distortion effect. I was looking at metal master, but i want one that has a wide range of distortions. Any ideas? And if you own one, tell me what u like about it thx Answer: I like the ProCo RAT2 for the price, but it depends what you will be playing. The Digitech Hot Rod is real nice too. Answer: I have a Boss DS-1 that I modded with the indyguitarist Tube Emulator mod. It turned it from one of the, imho, worst distortion effects around to a gnarly nasty growling stomp box. The tone for rhythm goes from a deep overdrive to a thick distortion...it's nothing like the stock pedal. The lead tone is, to me, beautifully close to that of Brian May's tone. If you can't tell, I dig it. I also own a Digitech Bad Monkey and it's not bad for a basic overdrive box. Answer: To quote myself: "Distortion pedals are the ultimate fluff." If you want good distortion, buy an amp. Answer: I dont Know. I have a Crate FXT120- Great digital effects but I don't really like the distortion. Should I buy a distortion Pedal? Well, if you have a good amp, it's more acceptable. Most people who buy distortion pedals have crappy amps and somehow think they will get great tone from having a good pedal. Just ain't happening. Answer: Well, The digital effects are great, but no matter how much gain, I can't get a good distortion out of it. I wanted to ask a question about it, but I don't remember what it was. Answer: *Looks around*...umm...this belongs in effects. Mod please! *poof* Answer: Get a Zoom multi. Dey's hot. Answer: Whoops, moved it to the wrong forum... Someone fix it. You may get decent results with a distortion pedal, but it all depends on the type of distoriton you're going for. Don't expect a good tube amp distortion out of a box. Answer: My fav is the TS-9 Tube Screamer... it sounds like egg nog. I also love the good distortion only a tube amp can give though. But Tube amp + tube screamer is amazzziiinggg. Answer: My egg nog doesn't sound like tube screamers. I don't think someone interested in the Metal Master would be very into Tube Screamers. Answer: If I were to have one single OD/dist pedal...either the Jekyll & Hyde OD/dist or the Fulltone Fulldrive. I would have to A/B them to decide. I do agree however, that the best OD/dist. comes from the amp itself...assuming it is a nice amp of course. Answer: I'd say get an amp that you really like the distortion on, then add pedals for different colors. Unless you really happen to plike a particular pedal/amp combo.
