Dickson Amplification
Question: Hello all, This is Berry, owner of Dickson Amplification. I build boutique all-tube guitar amplifiers. I was directed to this site by some fellow CGR forum members. Its awesome to see a site where Christian musicians can gather to share ideas and minister to one another. If anyone has questions about guitars, amps, audio recording, music ministry, or anything, I'd be glad to help where I can. If you would like to see my amps, the site is www.dicksonamps.com In HIM, Berry Answer: i went to the site, but i couldnt' find any prices...what range do you operate in? Answer: The prices range from $1200-$1800 depending on which model and what options are chosen. Answer: Welcome, Berry. We could always use another well learned amp guy. Too many newbs and not enough advanced guys, at least thats what it seems like to me. Answer: Hi Berry, thanks for visiting. It's so cool to see a working amp tech profess his faith and share with us. Answer: Hello Mr. Berry its great to have you on board. I do have a amp question that you might be albe to help me with. I'm fairly new to the tube amp thing and I was wondering how to change the speaker out of a open back sigle 12" combo amp. The amp is a peavey Ultra 112 (if I'm not mistaken Deren has one too) Are there steps to follow? Guidelines to keep in mind. I've never done anything with wireing before, is there much of that involved? Thank you! Answer: 4glory, it shouldn't be super complicated, all you'd need to do is unscrew the one speaker, and replaces with the new one...then there's the wiring you'd have to look at, but usually it's all very straight forward. i know my fender hr dlx would be really easy to do. just take a good look at it, or, if you want to take a picture of the speaker setup and the back of the amp and all that and post them i could probably figure it out. You should be able to simply unscrew the speaker from the cab, take off the two wires connecting it to the amp, then put in the new speaker the way you took out the old one, then putting the new wires on, making sure you put the positive wire on the right terminal, and vice versa. Answer: Hey Berry! Cool to have ya! Like ApparentlyNothing said, we need more people around here like you who are advanced in the amp thing. Alls I know about amps is ya plug 'em into your guitar and play. And that SS means crap. And tube means amazing. Answer: Originally Posted by skilletswitch Hey Berry! Cool to have ya! And tube means amazing. you apparently don't know very much at all if you really think that. Answer: Good to hear from all of you. As far as changing out the speaker, Dudedude2 and Rainer have you covered. Basically just recreate the way the original speaker was installed. The speaker should only have 2 connections. Just remember to do this with the amp off and unplugged. Let us know if you have any problems or are unsure about anything (if not hooked up properly, its like having the amp on without any speaker load, i.e., very bad for the amp). www.dicksonamps.com Answer: Originally Posted by dudedude2 you apparently don't know very much at all if you really think that. Yup! Answer: Hey Mr. Dickson. I tried to call, and got no answer. I actually left you a message... I'll call you later if you don't call me back! Answer: This is the same amp, I coppied it from Deren's old thread: It looks like the speaker is screwed in from the front of the cab, so I'd probably have to remove the grill from the front? Thanks Answer: I'm no expert, but generally they are screwed on from the back. You may have to remove the electronics portion of the amp to get at all the screws and remove the speaker. Make sure the amp is unplugged if you do that. It's possible that the speaker screws in from the front, which in that case you would have to remove the grill.
