Hey fellas...It seems to me that buying an empty cab and buying speakers (celestion vintage 30's) is a cheaper alternative to buying already made cabs from like AVATAR...I have no idea if this is a good idea because I don't know how to install the speakers to an empty cab...Also what is the difference between open back cabs and closed back cabs?!?

it's a good idea if you can find an empty cab of decent build (both wood and overall construction). Installing the speakers is fairly simple, it just requires a bit of soldering at the input jack and a little skill with a screwdriver.
The difference between open and closed...closed back cabs tend to have a beefier response because the sound going off of the back of the speaker is being reflected back towards the front. On an open back cab, it just goes out the back

I'd talk to a cab builder like Tim at Ear Candy Cabs. Like amps, it's more than just the amp or amp head and the speaker. Other considerations include the type of wood used, closed or open-backed (like you mentioned), having it ported or not, and things that go into the cosmetics, etc. Some builders use a combination of woods. But, their final product is usually the result of extensive testing and years of trial and error.
I'm the kind of guy who likes it done right since I have no desire to be a cab builder.
