What kind of Marshall stack should i get?

Question:
My band is about to start getting some gigs and i need a marshall stack, which one is best for, punk, emo, and alternitave music? It doesnt matter how much it costs.
Thanx,
Noah

Answer:
First off- why do you need a halfstack? Could you not use a combo? If a combo isnt loud enough, would there not be a sound system to mic it with? Trust me, combo's are way easier to lug around than stacks.
Second- for punk tones, the popular thing seems to be amps with rectifiers...which most people dont know Marshalls for.
Third- why only Marshall?
Well...despite all my questions, I will answer yours. My preference in Marshall is the TSL 100 with a 1960a slant cab. The head runs about $1499 and the cabs are $699 a piece. This is brand new, no tax added. Hope you were prepared for that!
Heck...for that price I'd get an Orange combo...or a Mesa Dual Rectifier.
Answer:
"punk, emo, alternative"...these genre's mean nothing these days. Could you give some examples of bands with the tones you're looking for? I think Relient K (in your avatar) uses Mesa Dual Rectifiers and Vox AC-30s.
Answer:
a rectifier would be good for punk/alt but those are Mesa's, if you're deadset on marshall then the DSL, TSL, or 800 would all be good... can you please specify more on what you are looking for? and why Marshall, because with me it seems that you are paying for the name there, not tone.. there are better amps for the price that you would pay for the Marshall IMO...
Answer:
do you only want a marshall cuz you saw one in your favorite bands new video?? i really doubt someone who is 13 is just now getting gigs is going to be playing clubs big enough to be able to crank up your 100 watt marshall halfstack. get a nice 2x12 combo its easier to set up and move around, and marshalls are overrated. if you really want a serious amp and u dont need to worry about price then get the 4 channel MEsa Boogie Roadking. i would like to see a marshall that can compete with this amp. it would fit with what you play and there is a 2x12 combo available. it uses 6L6 and EL 34 (marshall tubes) either seperately for different tones or together. you can set up each channel with the type of tubes you want it to use. you can even select which channels you want your effects loop to work with.

I saw Dead Poetic live and Zach used a Roadking... it was really cool, and he only used the 112, it was mic'd so you couldn't tell the difference... however Dusty used a Laney half stack.. i could hear them both fine....

this may just be me being a nit-picky EE student, but ALL amps have rectifiers. what you're reffering to here is a specific type of rectifier, either tube or SS.
Answer:
Very nit-picky indeed. I think its just common that when someone says "that amp has a rectifier" you just know what they really mean.
As for the other posts, as you can see, many people agree there are a lot better amps for the money.
Answer:
Save your back, your ears, and your frustration... get a combo.
If you're dead set on a Marshall, try a JCM2000 combo.

not really, as i still am unsure which type of rectifier you're talking about.

Answer:
when i say "A rectifier" i mean the Mesa Rect lines...

even when context suggests we're talking about the type of circuit?
Answer:
Originally Posted by AXguitar when i say "A rectifier" i mean the Mesa Rect lines... the issue here isn't what you mean as much as it is how to properly say what you mean. saying, "i need an amp with a rectifier to play punk" is about as useful as saying, "i need a guitar with a pickup to play country" if the audience doesn't know what you're talking about. Answer:
i also never use the term "An amp WITH a rectifier" i simply say "Rectifiers are good for punk" maybe i should put a Dual/Triple flag in front of it...
