hot rod deluxe vs. reverbrocket
Question: Hey guys, i've got an opportunity to trade my Fender HR Deluxe for an Ampeg R212R Reverbrocket. the trade is item for item. anyone have experience with the Ampeg? Can anyone think of some reasons why I shouldn't make this trade? Answer: I see you haven't gotten any responses here. have you received any elsewhere? Answer: Had I seen this earlier, I would have said that I'm not sure if you're trading up, but more like side-ways. I suppose it's a matter of taste and if you'd like the features on the rocket better than those on the HRD. They're both very nice on the clean end (IMO), lots of headroom for their wattage....maybe if the blue-checkered tolex on the rocket seems like your thing...? Nate Answer: well the major differences i saw were that i'd be switching from a 1x12 to a 2x12 amp...and that the HRD has a "drive" and "more drive" setting...whereas i got the impression the R212R was a straight ahead 2-channel amp. also, i would've lost a speaker out...but i heard that the R212R has a darker tone, which, given that my guitars tend to be super bright, wouldn't have been a bad thing necessarily. Answer: I haven't played a the R212R, but other Ampegs I have played through (recent ones, not vintage) have had more of a bright, jangly (in a pleasant way) tone that I wouldn't characterize as "dark." When I think "dark," Marshall comes to mind. As far as going from 1x12 to 2x12, I (personally) don't think there's enough of a difference for someone who plays live with a miced amp. Now if you're playing live with no PA support, the 2x12 will project better for sure. But in the venues I play, 2x12 is more extra weight than anything.
