and AMP!
Question: currently im look at going w/ an g212h(maybe a 4x12 cab but people have been telling my dragging them along is a pain) special Black Tolex Cab w/ Black Grill avatar amp just cause of some of the recent recommendations I've gotten on another forum and then getting a peavey 5150 II/6505+ head and puttin that on the avatar so all together so far I think if I get lucky this will cost me about $1100(most of its in the head the avatar cabs are extremely cheap but are just killer amps and people have been recommending it to me over the recently suggested marshall 1960A) so far then I figured w/ the rest(so far) I might get a pod xt live for effects. So I might end up going under 1500 if I follow what people have been telling me so far. Im still open to suggestions tho .. I wont be buying anything till october maybe late september so I will definetely be open to any new idea's. Answer: Once you get in those ranges, I'd say it's probably best to say you have $2000 total to spend. If you're not totally hooked on stacks and rack gear, there are a lot of awesome combo options as well, Seriously with $2K, it's totally possible to get a custom axe and a boutique amp. I'll of coruse have to try one out if I can but if I can not I will probabaly just pass. Not saying they're right for everyone. With nice stuff you'd be best served to try out a lot of options. With the PODxt Live option, you can also go a different route. Could test the waters in the POD > tube power amp > speaker cab way. Often, the PODxt Live makes the amp preamp irrelavent unless you're using it in the FX loop for just modulation and delay FX. I own a PODxt Live, and though I don't ever use half the effects, or even the amp models, it's still a lot cheaper than a pedal rig (once you buy 4-5 nice quality FX, you couldn've gotten the PODxt Live, and gotten very similar sounds for a lot cheaper). And the main reason why there's so much on the PODxt Live is so that it can appeal to a wide variety of players. Answer: Originally Posted by Rainer. No, you'd need a power amp as well.. I think you may be better off just getting a standard tube amp. Answer: You could do POD > Power Amp > Cab, and it could sound fine. It just really depends if you care for that sound. The POD sounds great plugged into just about everything. You would just need to find what exactly you want to plug it into. The POD is just another option you can weigh into what works for you. Answer: so maybe a set up like this would work out a marshall jmp-1(actually lol this isnt a poweramp is it? my bad) with/or a peavey classic 50/50 into a cab of some sort w/ the pod xt live connected to it. if thats what you meant by hooking a power amp to a cab. and I think I agree w/ you building boy this whole stuff seems to be complicated pretty fast lol... it might be easier just for me to get a tube combo of some sort... a really nice tube combo. You might want to look into some Carvin amps.. I own an MTS, and it does cleans, classic rock, and heavy stuff pretty well. The Carvin Legacy is similar. Answer: But do you really want a tube combo? The thing is that once you start spending $2000 on gear, you better be sure you like what you're getting. I personally think that the Marshall JMP-1 and PODxt Live would be redundant, unless you're only using the delay and wah models on the POD, in which case I'd just get a wah and a delay, since you haven't gotten to the point yet where the price difference would matter. Nice tube combo... again, I'd get a Rivera. Because I'm obsessed like that. Answer: Originally Posted by Rainer. Not saying they're right for everyone. The problem with most of us is that we are never satisfied with what we have, especially when it comes down to pedals. How many of us have said all I need is an overdrive pedal and a tuner, that's it! And then end up wishing we had a volume pedal, EQ, delay, distortion, wah, blah, blah, blah! I've found with my Digitech, I am not looking at any amps or pedals anymore. In fact, my EQ, tuner, compressor, Blues Driver, Tonebone and delay pedals are not doing me any good sitting in the case I carry them in. Answer: Which is why when we spend big bux on gear, lets at least shoot for 75% satisfied. Answer: digitech *sighs* lol last time I played my guitar through a digitech muti effect thing I could feel my ear melting away.... I swear im the pickiest effects person ever. My ear hates fake-ness. On some days I even find myself cursing at the pod I used to have in my sleep... sad I know. ....http://www.rivera.com/r100-212.php ^^ is that the rivera yout talkin bout? how much does it run for?
