les paul or pod xt

Question:
Hey guys, I currently play a Yamaha beginners guitar I got for christmas several years ago. I have a good amp and some pedals and stuff, as well as a Pandora PX4 multi-effects unit. Should I get an Epiphone Les Paul or a Line 6 Pod xt?

neither i wouldnt get an epiphone, but if your set in your ways, and you have some effects, and you are playing on a beginner yamaha, definitely get a new guitar. notice how i didnt say epiphone, tho. but if you REALLY want one. good luck.

What is your entire rig? Amps? Effects?
And why do you want the Les Paul? Why do you want the POD?
Answer:
What kind of amp do you have? Why do you need a POD? The only reasons you should get a POD are 1) Convenience of plugging direct in to the board in a live situation because maybe your church doesnt have the kinda equipment to mic, 2) You're recording and want a lot of different sounds, 3) You get a POD Pro and run it through a tube power amp. Even under those circumstances, it might not be the best choice. I think you need to give more details about your rig first.

Answer:
Yamaha Crap Guitar>Boss TU-2>Boss DS-1>Korg Toneworks PX4 Effects Processor-Crate GX-15 amp
I really like the les paul, and I would use a POD for recording and playing in church with a footswitch. I don't have tons of money, otherwise I would save for a gibson les paul.
Answer:
I wouldn't exactly consider a Crate GX15 a good amp...
I'd look to upgrading both the guitar and the amp. I'd go for an amp first.
Answer:
well, a new amp will improve your sound the most. And, then, of course, you'll need to go tube (if your gonna buy an amp anyway, why not save a little more for that huge difference?)
Whatever happens, just have patience, and not be in the mindset of "well, this is OK, and i can afford it RIGHT NOW, so i'll go with it instead of saving a few weeks longer for something alot nicer." Generally, your gonna get what you pay for.
Good luck.
Answer:
yeah biuld your tone out of your amp.
Answer:
Do you know what kind of budget you will have? Also, what kinds of music do you like to play? With those we can give some advice as to what to do.
Answer:
When I'm jamming with my "band", when we aren't playing worship songs, we play mostly punk. Thats usually what I practice at home, with some rock thrown in (think Kutless, 12 Stones, Jonah33, etc...). I do lots of MxPx and Relient K more than anything else.
Answer:
Oh yeah my budged is around 300-500 right now.

not good for live stuff, but for practicing in my room its fine. when jamming i use my friends marshall 50w amp with 2 channels.

I would go with the guitar and save up for a tube amp.
If you want to play in church direct to the board you might try a Presonus TubePre for $99. They sell them at MF or GC. Even though it says Microphone Preamp it can be used for guitar as well. You can go direct from the effects that you have already to the board since it will give you a line signal and it will warm your tone a little also. You can use the XLR out to the board and the 1/4 inch out to your GFX-15 as a monitor. It is not the end all to great guitar tone but it may serve the purpose. It is kind of like a tube preamp and direct box rollled up in one.
