Behringer
Question: I'm getting a new bass amp. Right now, I've got a Behringer BT108 practice amp and a humongous Yamaha 100-watt. (I don't remember the model). The Yamaha is actually my Dad's, and I've been using it since I first started playing bass last year. I've decided it's time to get out on my own with this stuff. I'm in a band, so my practice amp doesn't have a chance of cutting through. I'm looking at this one, because I have a budget of $200 and I don't want a gigantic cabinet, but still it has to be bigger than a practice amp. And I've seen Behringer to be quite reliable. What do you guys think? Answer: Yo might wanna get somnething a little louder cause you need a lot of power to keep up with all the other instruments. That's the thing though: I don't want something that takes 7 people to get back in the van. Any other suggestions specifically? Answer: I would save a bit more, and shoot for one of these or these. Id go for the first...BUT...I'd really look for one used first. On the craigslist I scored my sister a Crate BX100 for a hundred dollars. Answer: From what I hear Behringer is not the kind of amp to get. Check the reviews on musiciansfriend.com. Answer: Behinger is NOT the amp. Definately. Save up and get an Ampeg, woo!! Ampeg rocks....then get yourself 2 8x12 cabs. Hooray for bass! Answer: I'll definetely check these out. But just something to keep in mind, I'm also looking at a $400 bass. I doubt I'll be able to save up for an Ampeg any time soon. I think I'll shoot for the BXL900A. Answer: Originally Posted by SoapbarII Save up and get an Ampeg, woo!! The one concern i've seen pop up a few times is that they're not as loud as other amps of the same wattage rating. I think that the cheapest "minimum" with Behringer would be that BX1800, just because of it's 15" speaker. I, and many other bassists find that 12" speakers aren't specialized enough for the high end (like 10" speakers are) and they simply don't reproduce the low end like 15" speakers will. They're a poor compromise for most players. that being said, I'd head over to Guitar Center if you have the chance and see if they have any of these models in stock. I'd give you some great used suggestions, but I can't think of much on the used market...my bass stack ran $435 for the whole thing, but it took some patience and waiting to get it all together. I think that the used market (like www.craigslist.org if there's a city near you) can be really good to bass players. I see alot of 100+ watt Crate bass amps selling for under $200. Crate makes a pretty decent bass amp for the price, especially used. Answer: I concur with that comment on getting the BXL-1800 instead. Besides for 30 bucks more you get double the wattage and that will greatly help the headroom you have before you start distorting when you're competing with drums and guitars. Those Behringer kickback combos usually have direct outs, too, so you can put it through the PA system wherever you are. I've had the same experience with the Behringer combos not being as loud as comparable wattage combos from other brands. I've only played a couple, but that's been the conclusion I've come to both times. I had a Behringer BX3000T bass head that I used with an Ampeg cabinet that was just great, so I can only assume that the speakers in the Behringer combo are the reason they aren't as loud. Probably not very efficient, especially the aluminum ones. Answer: Originally Posted by thesteve 8x12??? who uses that config? Answer: that would be 16 speakers.. not 8.... check yo math... and i've heard pretty bad things about Behringer.. I just did a little research...apparently the Ox and Pete Townshend were both using 16x12 configs at one point. Answer: Originally Posted by SoapbarII then get yourself 2 8x12 cabs. Hooray for bass! So far as I know, no one has made an actual 8x12 cab, so I was just pointing out someone who had used an equivilent of what soapbar had suggested. No wonder Pete's half deaf. Answer: regardless of how many 12s" you can drop in a cab, or how many 4x12s you use, I still think I'd prefer to have a 1x15" and 4x10" setup... actually what'd I'd really like to try is a 1x18" and 4x10" setup. Answer: I'd love a 1x18 and a 4x10 on guitar... It'd be sweet to have someone build me a 4x15...... Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.thanktoday.com
