Question:
I got a new amp tonight! It's a Carvin MTS3200 50th anniversary half stack. It's nice, and practically brand new. The best part is is that it's pure tube power. I need to crank it so I can dial it in to my preferences, but I can't do that until tomorrow when nobody's sleeping.
Answer:
Congrats.
Answer:
Nice! I hear that the MTS series sounds excellect, though I would rather get a Legacy myself.

The overdrive may take a little work, but a good o/d pedal on top of that will help out a lot. I was reading a review on the MTS's and one guy said that a Carvin amp assembler told him that the Legacy's are basically MTS's with EL84's in the power amp rather than 5881's, and that was pretty much the only major difference. From all the reviews I read, switching out the 5881's with some high gain EL84's will help the overdrive quite a bit.
Answer:
yeah, be patient when it comes to dialing in a nice dirty channel tone. it took a while for me to finally get what i wanted from my legacy
have fun w/ your new baby! (amp i mean...)

Do you mean EL34's?
The 5881 is a functionally similar tube to the 6L6 but with less gain characteristics. There's several amps on the market that allows you to swap between EL34's and 6L6's. But I've never seen an amp with a swap out for the EL84. That tube is typically seen in low power class A amps.

It has a bias switch for 5881's, 6L6's, and EL34's, not 84's. I just kinda glanced at it, I didn't really pay much attention.

It's no biggie. It's easy to get those two confused, I know I have. Then when you get New Old Stock tubes, and tube substitutions, things can tend to really get out of hand.
