volume pedals
Question: does anyone have any suggestions for a good volume pedal under 100 bucks? there are two pedals that i've been eyeing.. the ernie ball jr and the visual sound volume pedal. i've been reading some reviews that the ernie ball has a problem with the string breaking, and i don't know what to think of the visula sound volume (looks a little funky).. i know visual sound has made some great stuff, but i think that's irrelevant.. if you have any experience with these can you give your input? Answer: I think people had some problems with the Visual Sounds as well. As for the strings in the EB. Things break, that's a fact of life. You can get replacements though. The way the EB is set up is excellent though. Nice, smooth throw all the way through. I would recomend that to the Visual Volume (although, I do like the LED indicator on the VS) Answer: I dont know...Its pretty hard to beat my $20 rogue Volume pedal....its just plastic heaven! I would recomend that to the Visual Volume (although, I do like the LED indicator on the VS) that's true i guess.. things do break, but not all things break, and some things break more often than other, and some broken things are easier to fix than others. i guess i was really asking how often the EB breaks, if it's really fragile or needs to be tossed around to be broken, and whether it was easy to fix if it were broken. oh yeah but i'll put rogue on one of the things i should look into Answer: I 've used an Ernie Ball Jr for almost a year now, and it doesn't show any sign of breaking or wearing. But I'm pretty gentle on my stuff, too. The EB works really good for me--the volume swells are smooth and not abrupt. I would recommend it. Answer: I would also recommend the EB Jr. The referred-to string looks pretty durable to me; it also seems like if it broke, it wouldn't be that difficult to fix. In any case, as stated above, the EB Jr. has a very smooth, controlled movement that would make it very hard or impossible to stomp it so hard that the string broke. I really think you would have to be poking around inside it to break the string. Also, like above, I really like the smooth motion for volume swells and fades. The EB Jr. also has a switch (buried deep inside--you have to look for it!) that lets you pick between a more gradual volume swell and a more rapid one. Answer: i guess i was really asking how often the EB breaks, if it's really fragile or needs to be tossed around to be broken, and whether it was easy to fix if it were broken. I've only had mine a couple of months. The pedals are very hearty. I think the string only breaks from use, there's no real way to abuse it, and my string doesn't look like it's going to break anytime soon. Shouldn't be too hard to fix either. Answer: i have the Steve Vai little alligator volume pedal. its really cool because it has a minimum volume option. you can set how low you want the volume to go when its in the toe up position.
