I would like to get a POD xt live sometime in the future. However, I would need a better amp to play it through. Nothing huge, but something better. It could even be a cab, I think, but I'm not sure. Do you guys have any suggestions?

Aren't Podxt's designed to be played through a PA? It has speaker simulation, so you don't need really need a guitar amp or cab. If you need something portable or need a monitor, you could go with a PA or Keyboard combo amp. Or maybe a powered monitor? You really don't want anything else but your modeler coloring your sound. YOu could use a clean guitar amp but PA's are more transparent.

Ok. What I was thinking was something portable, and that I could use in my room. It would be hard to use a pedalboard listening through headphones.

I do have an amp, but it's not very good. It's a Squier, so it doesn't sound very good. The only problem with headphones, would be that with the xt live, it would be on the floor, and it is a pain to do that. I've tried it with my Digitech.

A friend of mine runs through a Roland keyboard amp. I would recommend something like that. Peavey has a few KB/KBA models that are decent and can probably be had at rock bottom prices.

If you use your existing amp, use the effects loop to go directly into the power amp (if you have an effects loop). If you want something cheap to practice with, I would go with 30 watt keyboard amp. I believe Hopeful puts his Digitech through a Fender Champion 30 watt guitar amp for practice with good results. I have even used a set of powered computer speakers plugged into the headphone output to practice with my Digitech RP100 (probably sounds about as good as a 15 watt practice amp). For something decent sounding for practice I would look for something in SS with 30watts and a 10" or 12" speaker. Something like that might even be suitable for monitoring in a live situation. What's your budget for this?

Not much. I was actually thinking about a Line 6 Spider 30W. I probably wouldn't have the money to buy both the POD and an amp at the same time, so I could buy the Spider, which would be a step up, and later get the POD.

You're going to need something with an effects loop.
To answer the question about the PA: The PODXtl has several different output modes. If you're plugging into a PA, you set the output mode to Studio Direct usually. There are also different output modes for plugging into the front end of an amp or just the power section.
I've tried my PODXTL through the power section of the Fender Hotrod amps with very pleasing results.
To the OP: Do a google search for 'Channel 6 forums.' It's the Line6 BBS and you can ask the guys there what they use.

Why not spend $40 more and get the Spider 110 combo for $199. It's got 60 watts and a 1x12. It will work for gigging too. Add a pedal board and you have almost as much versatility as the XT. If its good enough for gtrdave its good enough for me (that's what he says he uses for worship). I tried out the Spider 30 in the store and I didn't find it very versatile with only 4 amp emulations (only two of which I would use). It also seemed more cheaply built.

I don't own an XT nor have I tried one. Is it a difference in features or is the sound better? If the OP thinks he may want the XT for live use then maybe he should get that now and live with the practice amp for home use. A 15 watt might not actually sound that bad with the XT for practice.

i concur, but the POD isn't meant to take the place of an amp, it's meant to compliment it... if you want a nice amp with an effects loop for under 1K i reccomend B-52.. i would reccoment a Peavey as well, but i don't know about their effects loops or if they even have one, the valveking has a very nice price to it....

Lol, the XTL is a TON more versatile than the Spider II. Like Casey said, you can't compare the two..
