Questions
Question: Ok I have a few questions that i need to be answered. 1.) Which is better an effects pedal that has like 100 effects or just buying seperate pedals and making your own tones? 2.) What exactly is an effects loop, I've seen that on here before never knew what it meant. 3.) Does it matter the order you plug in your pedals? Thanks for everything! Kris Answer: 1) It can really go either way. Generally multieffects are seen as cheaper, as most units out there are, and don't sound as good as solid individual effects. However, in the right hands, a high-quality multieffects unit can sound just as good or better than a high quality pedal setup. 2) An effects loop is a feature on some amps (mostly tube amps). Think of your setup as a string - Guitar to effects to preamp (the part of an amp you plug into and control EQ, gain, etc. on) to speakers. An effects loop comes in between the preamp and speakers. You then run effects to it (generally time based effects like delay, chorus, tremelo, etc.) and then out and directly into the speaker. If used right it can really improve your sound. 3) Yes! Order makes a big difference. Think of it this way. You have a tremelo and delay pedal. You set the trem so that it cuts out everything at intervals. If you have it after the delay, then it will cut out everything, including delayed notes. If you have it before the delay, then the delay will repeat the cut out parts from the trem. Hopefully that makes sense. Answer: 1) It can really go either way. Generally multieffects are seen as cheaper, as most units out there are, and don't sound as good as solid individual effects. But if you want top of the line stuff it would be better to go with individual effects? 2) An effects loop is a feature on some amps (mostly tube amps). Thanks Answer: If you think you will want lots of effects in the future (or now) I recommend the BOSS ME-50. It has just about all the effects you can get for a fraction of the price. It would probably be $1500-$2000 if you were to buy all the individual pedals that the ME-50 has all in one for only $300. Answer: But are the genuine? Are they some of the best tones put in one pedal or are they regular tones i caould make with my digitech RP50? Answer: Most multieffects are not that great. I have the Boss ME-30 and I really have outgrown it. Ive moved on to rack processors for better or worse. If you want the best, Id look in the effects loops of very famous musicians. I picked one out of the edge's rack, and while I need to get it serviced, the quality should be much higher. Probably individual... but the problem is that there is no 'top of the line'. You could spend as much money as you want on either end of the spectrum (multi or individual) and have custom builds that will both be absolutely amazing and $$$$$$$. Originally Posted by Fatherladd This is only tube amps? No, they are not exclusive to tube amps, they just tend to have them more often, as they are generally higher quality than their SS counterparts, thus, they tend to have effects loops more often. Answer: This brings me to another question. Whats the difference between rack effects and stomp boxes? Is one better than the other? Aren't rack effects more exspensive?
