Example: 2x12 The "2" is how many speakers. The "12" is the width, in inches, of each speaker. Answer: Originally Posted by Building429_Boy Example: 2x12 The "2" is how many speakers. I agree... but isnt the 12 the diameter??? i guess the diameter is basically the "width" Answer: Originally Posted by RelientKFan7 I agree... but isnt the 12 the diameter??? i guess the diameter is basically the "width" Yes, same thing. Answer: Originally Posted by Building429_Boy Yes, same thing. Except "diameter" is more precise and, therefore, better. The Fender Hot Rod Deville is available in a 4x10" configuration (4 ten inch speakers) and the combo's dimensions are 23.5" x 23.5" x 10.75" (width, height, depth). Answer: Generally, in English, the "x" in things like 2 x 12 or 4 x 10 is read as "by." So one might say, "2 by 12" or "4 by 10" In the business, you "just have to know" that we're talking about number of speakers and the diameter of each speaker. And it looks like this thread has accomplished that for you - welcome to the world of amp jargon.
