Which to Choose of the 4 pedals

Question:
Im planning to get some pedals once I get the cash which should be coming soon....I already have a digitech hot rod...which I really like cause I prefer a modern rock style....and I'm thinking about getting two pedals under $100....
so far I'm been thinking two out of these four....
Boss Super Overdrive SD-1
Boss DS-1
Digitech Hot Rod
DOD YJM308 Yngwie Malmsteen Signature Overdrive
so what do you guys recommend....
Answer:
What kind of amp are you going to be running these into?
Answer:
currently I have about a 15 watt optimus amp...which isn't great...but I play for my church youth band so I will probably run it sometimes through the main system...but I want to get a line 6 spider amp.....

If you get the Line 6, you won't need any pedals. Mine is for sale if you are interested.
Answer:
I probably would be....but I don't have the money yet...I'll have it in a month...how much are you selling it for anyway?

thanks for the offer man....but I won't have that money for probably two or three months....
Answer:
Buying distortion pedals when you don't have a good amp is like buying a surround sound system for a 3" portable black and white TV.

+1 Seriously, reign in the GAS and save just a couple bux more to get a real amp first. It doesn't have to be an expensive 100 watt half stack, maybe something like the Line6 30 watt Spider, or the Vox Valvetronix, both of which I think are under $200 and will have plenty of distorto-tones already built in. Personally, I'd go for something like a used Fender Blues Jr., Peavey Bravo, Classic 30, and others; giggable all tube amps that you can pick up @ $250.00 and even less. I've never heard of that Optimus brand, but if it is a little cheese-tone practice amp, distortion pedals are only going to produce a more distorted cheese-tone.

Sticking any kind of pedal in front of a bad amp that is going to try to push it is just going to push it into sounding horrid. I believe Tom said it all

Answer:
Yes, that was a good analogy - enhancements to a lousy video system will not lead to a satisfying viewing experience, and if anything may only make its core weakness more apparent, just like putting pedals in front of little ss practice amp, or good pickups on a toy guitar. I think a lot of players don't realize that a guitar amp is really part of the instrument that is electric guitar', and are at least as important as the guitar. I'm in the "the amp is actually more important to the final e-guitar tone than the guitar itself" camp. It is not a high fidelity reproduction system. It "processes" the guitar's signal in a particular way, even with the cleanest of tones, that makes it sound like...well...an electric guitar. Distortion and OD devices are made to work in conjunction with an amp, and IMO, won't significantly strengthen its inherent weakness.
Answer:
ok thanks guys....I believe I'll take your advice....my amp actually suprisingly is a fairly good sound considering its only a 10 or 15 watt....and I have a pedal that I'll put in it...but you can't put both distortion on the pedal and amp all the way....so yeah I'll definitely be looking at a line 6 spider or something similar....
