Difference between preamp and all tube??
Question: I've been looking at amps for a couple months, because im in need of a serious upgrade, and I was looking on musicians friend and I saw some amps labled as all "tube amps" with power tubes and some with only "tube preamps" Could someone tell me the difference between the two kinds and how the difference would affect the sound of the amp??? Answer: you will find your answers in the stickied threads at the top of the amps forum. Answer: Okay... i read the stickied threads... after reading those... i have another question... im looking at a Crate either the 15 or 30 watt all tube amp... is the V1512 the same as the V16 Palomino??? I heard that the only difference is the color... is this true?? Answer: I dunno about that, but the Palominos are decent sounding amps. Don't take my word though, you can email Crate.... I did try the V1512 once a few years back, I thought it was a great sounding amp. 15 watt amps are plenty loud, for typical P & W applications, probably a lot louder than what you can get away with... Answer: When it is "all tube" it is 100% tube lol. If it has a tube preamp it isn't all the way tube. Just go with the ones that are "all tube" Answer: Originally Posted by thomaspg70 When it is "all tube" it is 100% tube lol. If it has a tube preamp it isn't all the way tube. Just go with the ones that are "all tube" Not to be nitpicky, but I have 3 all tube preamps that run into an all tube power amp. (and not all "tube" amps are "all tube" I have heard the all tube designation for those with tube pre, power, and rectifier sections. Truth be told, I think I like a solid state rectifier circuit's effect on an amp.) My preamps are all tube, that does not say the first thing about the power section. Generally for most rock, all tube would be prefferable. For metal distortion... It might not be, as all your distortion will be preamp. Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.thanktoday.com
