Hmm, you might want to try an epiphone valve Jr then.
Also a peavey classic 20 might be a good choice as well.
Answer:
Or Classic 30. For heavier stuff than Zeppelin, look for a pedal to go along with said amps, if you don't play heavier stuff contantly.
Answer:
the problem with only $300 bucks is your going to be limited on the sounds you can get

Not if you know where to spend it. If you look hard enough, you can find a Peavey Bravo in that price range, which can easily do metal. Perhaps maybe even an Ultra or Triumph, also versatile hi gain amps.

exactly, and I mentioned the 20 over the 30 for 2 reasons.
1) It would be sufficient for the needs he mentioned.
2) It has tended to run less than the 30 lately when I have seen it.
though the 30 is a great amp too. Carvin has some good low wattage tube amps as well. (The vintage series perhaps?) I have no experience with them personally, but have seen them quite a bit in the used market as something that might be worth trying out.

Yeah, when I give reccs, I tend to just give the folks a slew of options, makes the used pickings easier to find.
Answer:
You can find a classic 30 on Ebay for 300.
