Marshall for Fender Twin

Question:
I recently purchased a used Fender Twin Amp for use in a alternative rock band. Before using the Fender Twin I had been using a Marshall JCM-900 half stack but I got really tired of moving it every where. Since the switch I have come to notice that the Twin amp's gain just does not satisfy me, I am looking for something with a little more aggressive gain. Would it put me to shame by putting an overdrive or even the dreaded distortion pedal in the signal path? Or is there some other way to coax more grit from my Fender Twin?

This changes a bit with the "Evil" Twin amps, but you're still not going to be able to attain JCM levels of gain without some stompbox assistance.
