JCM900

Question:
Anyone ever tried theese amps. They seem to be the beta series of marshall cos they are so cheap. R they as good as the jcm2000 series?( as much gain...)?
Answer:
They're a completely different series of amps than the JCM2000. They are not a "beta" series at all. If you think the 2000's are the top version, you'd be sadly mistaken. I'd take a JCM800 over a 2000 any day. But as for the 900, most people don't like it's harsh distortion. They're cheap because they're discontinued now, so people will only pay what they think they're worth on the used market. I haven't played one myself, but my JMP-1 has a preset designed after the 900, and if it's close to what the real thing sounds like, I would hate it too.
Answer:
U dont seem to get much gain in a jcm800 unless i'm mistaken. Well not as much as lead 2 in the dsl50
Answer:
I think I played one of those. The cleans were OK, but the distortion was harsh and sounded like a solid state distortion. Better than my amps distortion, still not pleasant.

Answer:
I'm pretty sure the JCM900. I really didn't think it was an all tube amp.

Well not as much as lead 2 in the dsl50 That's why you get a good overdrive pedal with it to use with the amp's distortion. Or you get it modded, which is a popular choice. Still sounds better than the DSL or TSL.
Answer:
Get a speed twin. Better than any marshall
