280 watt amp?

Question:
THis may be one very blunt question that may be very stupid, but what kinds of amps out there are exactly 280 watts? Now I know that may be impossible to awnser, but there is going to be a garage sale down the street from me that in the add was advertised as "a 280 watt guitar amp", and I am curiose if it will be worth anything. If it is even near cheap and decent, I will buy it in a second so I could sell it on ebay. 280 watts is a @#$% lot of volume.
Answer:
A lot of people mistakenly use the power consumption rating, which is also measured in watts, to describe the amp. That is stated on the back of the amp, usually near the power cord. That rating is for how much current the amp uses from the wall outlet, which is much higher than the speaker output watt rating.
Answer:
so its probably not 280 watts. If this amp is worth anything, that is probably a very good thing.
Answer:
it's a garage sale amp...a huge majority of the time people who are selling musical equipment at garage sales have no idea what the value of the object is, or even what the object is in general
Answer:
SO, I woke up this morning at around 9 to go check it out. IT WAS SOLD. The garage sale had been open for an hour, and it sold. What kind of amp (and guitar) was it? A peavey ultra and mim telecaster. And how much were they? The mim tele was $100, and the amp $150. DANGIT

true this afternoon i bought a ibanez ds7 for 10 bucks
Answer:
And last year I picked up a DOD chorus for $10 as well
Answer:
i found a TS9 for 15, i'm yet to use it, just haven't found a use for it yet, but someday i swear that i will, especially since the B52 has an effects loop...
Answer:
why would you put a ts 9 in an effects loop? overdrive and such "generally go infront of the amp to push the preamp tubes harder. This is not a rule by any means but just give it a try. Peace out
Answer:
For a solo volume boost. Tubescreamers are about as equally well known for their boost as their actual drive.
Answer:
True, but by setting the drive at 0 and level and tone to taste, it would still give a healthy boost and add sustain and saturation as long as the gain on the B-52 is not maxed out.
