Hot Rod Deluxe
Question: Ok, after searching the net with no success I thought I would come to you guys for help. The other guitarist in the band I'm in bought a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe and I went online to do some research on it but I'm having trouble. The reason for the trouble is because it's not the standard model. It has the Jensen speaker upgrade and has cream knobs but it still has the black tolex. Now I've seen the upgrade in emerald green and tweed but I haven't seen it in black. I'm assuming that it's the same as those except in black but I'm not 100% positive since I haven't even been able to find one online. Why can't I find one like his online? I must be overlooking something very obvious because I know it's gotta be out there. Can someone help me find it? Thanks! Answer: are you sure it's a hot rod, and not a Blues Deluxe - one of the newer Fender amps that looks very very similar to the Hot Rod Series? Answer: Originally Posted by Casey are you sure it's a hot rod, and not a Blues Deluxe - one of the newer Fender amps that looks very very similar to the Hot Rod Series? This amp was sitting right next to a standard Hot Rod and they looked identical. The only difference was the cream knobs and the speaker. Tolex, grill cloth, features, and even the name plate on the front said "Fender - Deluxe." The price tag even said Hot Rod Deluxe on it except it was $100 more than the standard model. The guy that sold it to him said it was the same amp except it had a speaker updgrade. Both of the changes you're looking for are "soup du jour" sort of upgrades. Answer: Fender made a limited supply of green tolex HR Deluxes awhile back. That's probably why it cost more. http://img89.imageshack.us/img89/4721/picture1684si.jpg From a guy on the Carvin forum: limited to 700 units worldwide green hotrod deluxe Answer: Originally Posted by Building429_Boy Fender made a limited supply of green tolex HR Deluxes awhile back. The guy at the guitar store (AB Stephens in Huntsville, AL) had 3 hot rod's available. Two with the upgrades and one standard model. The standard had a price tag of $599 and the upgrades were $699 each. We were giving the standard model a test run when he came in the room to assist us. We asked what the difference was between the two (besides the price and the cream knobs) and that is when he told us that it had the more sought after Jensen speaker. My friend plugged into the upgraded amp and a noticeable difference was found in tone so that's the one he went with. I was just surprised to get online after the fact and be unable to find any info on this paticular configuration. Like I said, it appears to be exactly the same as the emerald green amp except that the tolex is black. I guess I should try to email fender and ask them about it. I've went this far searching for the truth so I think I'll continue on. Answer: Originally Posted by BamaBleach I guess I should try to email fender and ask them about it. I mean, ultimately tolex is probably one of the cheapest and least technological parts of an amp. Answer: Originally Posted by thesteve this is probably your best bet. Tolex is actually pretty expensive. I know a guy who made a 2x12 cab DIY style. The green tolex cost him $60. But yes, it doesn't affect tone. Oh yeah, definantly. Answer: Originally Posted by thesteve this is probably your best bet. I'm guessing that Fender did a run of the emerald green models in black tolex. Right now I'm working under the assumption that the tolex is the only difference. Never know, this could be a collectors item...or it could be something new they just started that everybody and their brother will end up with. Hopefully Fender will clear the air. My curiosity has taken the wheel at this point. Answer: Originally Posted by BamaBleach I totally agree. I'm just making sure that it's the same thing. Still no reponse from Fender. I'll give it till tomorrow and then I'll send them another e-mail. Multiple e-mails seem to do the trick for getting in touch with Hiwatt about a schematic I needed.
