The new Zoom pedal board
Question: I was looking through the Samash catalog today, and I saw the new Huge zoom pedal board . It has some really cool features, like the two way wah, and the two tube preamp. If the thing sounds good, I think this could be a strong competition with the Line6 PODxt Live. Has anybody read/played this thing? Because I know a ways down the road after I get a good tube amp I will buy a nice multi effect pedal board, and the decision would be beetween the Zoom, the Line6, and that Digitech. Hm? Answer: sorry but i like individual pedals better. looks sturdy though you might be able to get some good sounds out of it. all in all try one Answer: Looks cool. Answer: its supposed to be VERY rocking! Answer: WOW....looks very promising....in fact, had I not ordered a Vox tonelab se yesterday I'd be checking it out really closely about right now! Answer: These new ZOOM pedal boards have much better AD/DA converters than the LINE6 Boards. So yeah, should blow them both away in terms of sound quality. The ZOOM G2 has raving reviews pretty much everywhere. If I were to go the multieffect route I would go with either this or a good sound card, laptop, and GuitarRig 2. The "3D Z-Pedal" is intriguing for sure..... Answer: It's not just the ad/da that looks great here, but the tubes, and the fact that the thing has an effects loop. The tonelab has one as well, but is the first thing after the guitars input....not of much use. I wanted to see it after the pramp/eq, go of of it into my tube amp...crank it, mic it, then come back into the multi effects for reverb/delay/chorus... Answer: That 3D pedal looks interesting. If they really did it right and pulled it off well, then I think it could be quite cool once you get used to it. If not...then it's just a gimick. Also, while recent units have been getting great reviews, I am still skeptical about the company. So much of the stuff they have made in the past has been substandard quality, and I have a hard time believing that they would have changed their philosophy so suddenly. Also, i'm not sure they can do better then a POD XT. I mean, if Lincoln Brewster - tone freak and fully qualified sound engineer can do a blindfolded test between Line 6 models and the real thing and not tell any difference...I think it's about as good as it will get. Answer: I don't know, the valves in these things tend to be gimmick..... Also, there have been plenty of people who didn't like the POD XT who liked the ZOOM G2 and others. (The same can be sai the other way around). I've never really like Line6 gear myself. And I think the reviews really speak for themselves. ZOOM seems to have changed there way of doing things. Hm? You'd really be spending more than you need to for those to get two or three usable effects that you like and use often. All of those are amp modelers along with effects patches, and pairing amp modeling with true tube amps often yields not-so-great results. Turn off the amp modeling and you'll do better if you like the tone of your amp already, but that's wasting money on amp modeling like I said.
