hey guys quick question on B52 amps, I just tried one a guitar center (I"m canadian so we don't have them here but I was in NY and checked one out) They sounded pretty decent, it was an AT212 combo amp.
I've read reviews etc and most people said that it wasn't that reliable with poor support from the manufacture.
My other option is the Peavey Ultra 212 combo. I've owned the 112 version of the amp and it was amazing.
I play hard rock and metal, both these amps sound decent and the price is also relitavely the same. Which one do you prefer and why? Has anyone had expereince with B52 at all?

I have only played the B52, but both sound like a good go. I really like the sound of the B52, someitmes called the poor man's mesa, but the peavey is also really good from what I have heard. I don't think I could choose if I was in the position

B52, from what I hear, bases their circuits on Marshalls. I have played a few B52 amps, and I do like them (tonewise) very much. They are fairly high gain, as well.
I can't quite say much for the Peavey Ultra, however, as I've never played one.

The B52 solid states do what a Hoover does. But the tube amps are very nice from what I have played

wait...how much are you looking at paying for an AT212? At MF they're $799. I couldn't imagine a Peavey Ultra Plus in a 2x12 combo going for more than $450

The peavey Ultra gets pretty heavey and I like the tone a lot.
It would cost me roughly $750 CAN for the Ultra 212 and it was listed at guitar center for $699 USD for the B 52, with our exchange rate I don't know if there would be much of a difference in price however I'm leaning towards the Peavey only because I've had more experience (and it was good experience) with it.

I have played the half stack version of that b52. It was a very versatile amp, but I wasn't crazy about the tone for heavy stuff and metal.

I've played the head through the matching cab, and I was quite impressed. As soon as I pay off my 1960B Cab, I've decided I'm going to go get that head. The guy in our local GC told me I could walk out of there with the head (which is brand new, not a refurb or anything) for just under $400.

I have to admit, I did like the tone of the B 52, I'm going to my local guitar shop to check out the Peavey again and see if I can compare the tones. I didn't have my guitar with me at the GC in NY so I played a close relitive of it, A newer model GIbson SG (I have one from the 70's that my grandfather passed down) I don't know how that will effect the tone persay.
I just know Peavey is good quality but I can't keep the sound of that B 52 out of my head. Decisions decisions.

I also agree that both amps sound quite good. Personally, I'd trust the Peavey a lot more as far as quality and service are concerned, plus I like Peavey as a brand overall. Plus, I could probably get an Ultra for a pretty good price here. So I'd go for the Ultra, for me.

$750 CAD is a steep price for a used amp that's been out of production for a couple years. I don't know how much customs is, but you still might be able to swing a better deal from a US dealer.
