Answer: idk.. i haven't researched it.. the head i'm buying is the peavey XXL.. but i'm gonna do a cost comparison and i may just buy the matching cabs Answer: Originally Posted by AXguitar idk.. i haven't researched it.. the head i'm buying is the peavey XXL.. but i'm gonna do a cost comparison and i may just buy the matching cabs AFAIK the Peavey XXL isn't stereo, or at least it is quite capable of running in mono. Answer: well, from my experience with car stereo's every channel has it's own ohm load.. such as... if i were building a cab... 2 8ohm speakers makes 4 ohms... if the amp is stable at 4 ohms then i can have 4 8ohm speakers @ 4 ohms on each channel, but i only think that's the way it works with guitar amps Answer: Originally Posted by AXguitar well, from my experience with car stereo's every channel has it's own ohm load.. such as... if i were building a cab... 2 8ohm speakers makes 4 ohms... if the amp is stable at 4 ohms then i can have 4 8ohm speakers @ 4 ohms on each channel, but i only think that's the way it works with guitar amps well... a car stereo is going to be running in stereo. I'm not sure how many channels a car stereo has. I know I've seen some receiver/amps that say they're 4x45W so I guess that means 4 channels at 45W each. On most guitar amps you are running in mono. Thus, with a guitar amp running at 4 ohms you can run 2 8 ohm speakers, or 4 16 ohm speakers, given that these are all running in parallel. If you were running them in serial, then the speakers would be 1 4 ohm speaker or 2 2 ohm speakers. Answer: well the cabs are all listed as stereo... i was gonna build my own cabs because i thought it would be cheaper, but the mf price is soo low.... I actually couldn't find a mono/stereo spec for the XXL. Sometimes they're wired so that if you plug into the right plug it's mono and if you plug into the right and left it's stereo. either way, the XXL head has a switch for 4, 8 or 16 ohms which should allow it to work with just about any cabinet. Answer: i'm just gonna buy the matching cab... Answer: Unimportant comment: I'm pretty sure left is actually usually mono. Answer: Left is mono. About the amp: The only thing stereo guitar amps are good for, IMO, is stereo effects while recording, and that's only if you're really attatched to your stereo stompboxes. Over 10 or 20 feet away, the stereo effect is basically good for nothing. Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.thanktoday.com
