Need Help with Dunlope Jimi Wah
Question: My son's got a Dunlope Jimi Wah. Without hitting a string, when you rock the pedal back and forth it sounds kind of like you're listening to the ocean through a sea shell. It's not a buzzing sound. I mean it sounds just like the shell description. I opened it up and there are no loose wires and everthing is connected. I unplugged it from the power supply and used it with a battery and it does the same thing. Now, while at college, one thing he use to do is leave in plugged in all the time, even when he wasn't playing the guitar. Could that have done something? Personnally that's what I think did it. Anyway, I've never taken a pedal in for a repair, will it cost more to have it fixed than just buying a new wah? Thanks for any help you can give. Answer: Not trying to be smart, but if it only does it when the string is not being hit, what is the big deal? Unless it does it while the string is still ringing. Answer: My pedal does that too...I am pretty sure it is normal. Answer: It could be just exaggeration of the guitar's natural noise. My wah does it too... Answer: Originally Posted by Rainer. Answer: I reckon it's exactly what Rainer said. A wah gives a huge boost to a particular frequency, so even ambient frequencies will come through. Also, I wouldn't recommend leaving in plugged in all the time. Some effect pedals drain the battery whenever they're plugged in. ...were you on the GPC boards when those were around? That guitar in your avater looks familiar. Answer: I have two other wahs and they don't make that sound regardless of how much gain I push on my rig. I haven't played it on his rig, but he tells me the problem is the same. He left it plugged in to a wall outlet using a power supply while also connected to his rig. My concern was that maybe it fried/overused a circuit of some sort. I also thought it may be the pot. Answer: "...were you on the GPC boards when those were around? They'd probably be willing to at least answer questions about whether something could've gotten blown. There could be alot of things wrong with it. it may have fried the power jack...have you tried using it with the battery? it may have broken jacks. My first Dunlop wah broke internally as the soldering joints of the 1/4" plugs to the board broke Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.thanktoday.com
