Answer: Originally Posted by andrewama do I need distortions, overdrives, compressors and kinds? No. There are a few basic things to remember about effects. 1. Amp distortion sounds better than pedal distortion. If you don't have a good amp, buying a distortion pedal will not help it sound better. 2. Never EVER EVER EVER EVER buy ANY effect unless you know EXACTLY what it does and why you want it. Seriously. Just don't do it. If you don't know what it does, DON'T BUY IT. It would be best to read this site before buying any effects: http://www.harmony-central.com/Effec...explained.html 3. You do not need any effects to play any style. You can play blues, rock, jazz, funk, acoustic, hip-hop, disco, or anything else you like with absolutely no effects. Effects just give you a different sound. 4. Ultimately, your sound is about YOU, not what gear you have. If you can't play well, effects won't make you sound good. In fact, usually you have to be able to play BETTER to make effects sound right. You have to make the effect sound good; it won't play itself. Answer: The main things I use on the worship team is light OD, clean and chorus. Thats it. Answer: Originally Posted by bobthecockroach No. 1. Amp distortion sounds better than pedal distortion. Especially if you have a tube amp that you can't crank to ten to get that sweet sound. I have a Jekyll & Hyde pedal that drives my tube amp beautifully and I wouldn't trade it for the world. Answer: Oh, along with my J & H I also use chorus and delay...along with an eq pedal for volume boost. Answer: That's what I'm saying. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with distortion pedals. I'm saying that they should only be used with good amps to give a different or better sound. If you didn't have a good amp, your Jekyll & Hyde wouldn't sound so sweet. Answer: I use two effects, overdrive and delay. Thats it, I play electric lead for the praise band for my youth. Answer: I mainly just use a nice clean sound but I also use chorus and distortion in moderate amounts but it depends on the song Answer: I sue my amp on clean and my TS9DX for overdrive and thats and I've gotten the best tone comments on that then using anything else. The best distortion/od pedal will not save a bad sounding amp. What I currently use is a Line6 Spider II 112 amp. I was using an FBV-4 footswitch and selecting between 4 different settings: clean, clean w/ chorus, overdrive, and distortion w/ delay...along with a touch of verb on all of them. I recently sold the FBV-4 and am waiting for an FBV-Express controller to replace it. In the interim I'm using my old tried-and-true pedalboard going into the Spider II and leave it set to clean only. The effects I'm using at random are: modded Boss Compressor/Sustainer, modded Boss DS-1, Boss TU-2, DOD Chorus, Digitech Digiverb, Boss Noise supressor. I was surprised that the combo of modeling amp and stomp boxes worked as well as it did but I'm still going to use the Express when it arrives as I like having the simplicity of the amp and effects all-in-one as the Spider II affords a user to have. All that said, there are no effects, guitars and/or amps that will make-up for poor technique, unpreparedness, and a heart that's not properly focused completely on worship. I say that to be sure that the priorities are straight, that's all. Answer: I have carved out alot of my pedal board in pursuit of tone. My big effects I use are Volume Pedal (not really an effect) OD, Delay, Tremolo Answer: distortion, overdrive, chorus, phaser, and a wha wah and it sounds beautiful when i play on sunday worship and youth worship. this is my setup boss DS1, boss SD1, EH big muff, digitech phaser, digitech chorus, boss TU2, and a dunlop crybaby. Answer: how do I switch from different settings without switching on/off for the pedals (is there a specific pedal for this?)....for example... clean sounds to distortion to clean/distortion to distortion/delay...and blah blah blah? Do I just get the clean sounds from the amp and get other effects that i already configured and get that "specific" pedal that changes to those settings immediately? Answer: Turn the pedals on or off? When you turn a delay pedal on, you have delay. When you turn it off, the delay goes away. You really, really need to read more about effects, though. You'll learn a lot more by researching them than just asking stuff on here. Until you know about effects, you're not going to make good decisions about buying them... nor will you be able to get good sounds out of them. Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.thanktoday.com
