Wow, my mom is really good at talking me out of buying new stuff (like a BASS for example) Well, she is fine if I buy a pedal, but since I have alot of access to lots of different basses she said I didn't really need one. Anyway, I have started to notice how handy a wah would be for me. (Yeah, I have the danelectro dano-wah, but that thing is 100% crud) My budget is about $70, so I have narrowed it down beetween a Crybaby and a used Vox. I will be using it for anything from metal-ish/hard rock to disco-ish and clean stuff. Which one would be better for my musical tastes, the used Vox or the Crybaby?

though the Crybaby is a classic. I dunno. You can get a better deal than the new MF price though. If you're willing to ebay the Vox, then you should do the same with the Dunlop

Another option you might consider is a Rocktron Black Cat, I own one and the tone is great and the service unbeatable. I accidently plugged in a five amp power supply(supposed to be .7) and toasted my pedal, I took it to the music shop where I bought it to see what they coud do and the next week they give me a call telling me that Rocktron would waranty it even given the nature of the toasting.
I'm now a strong rocktron supporter.

The main reason I am leaning towards the Vox is its true bypass (I think) I know you can get true bypass crybabies, but I know that pianoman loves vox wahs, so if they are good enough for him, they are good enough for me . I just want true bypass because I know that some wahs are know to hurt tone (my dano like completly changes the tone) so I want to take care of that.

Well, a Vox V847 isn't true bypass. There are plenty of cheap mods out there for them and crybabies to make them so though.
As jamforchrist123 said, I do love Vox wahs. It was my first wah, though I now own a Teese wizard wah. As i've said though, when/if the Teese finally breaks down, I will get another Vox. I still wish I could fix my Vox though...I would love to do a side by side comparison to figure out what I like about both.

It is something that has been majorly hyped up in recent years. Yeah, it is a good thing, but it isn't essential for great tone. I have a few pedals that color my tone, and I actually like the sound more with the coloration then without. Personally, i'll take it if I can get it, but i'm not going to be sad if the pedal I want doesn't have it.
Well, I don't know exactly what types of music you do. I'm assuming you are playing some at church, and while both would do fine, I tend to prefer the Vox in that setting.
As for the modern/vintage sounds. I tend to think of vintage as a smoother sound with a bit less treble and more midrange, and modern as more aggressive with more treble and a bit less midrange.
I think the best thing you could probably do right now is grab your guitar, head over to Guitar Center, and do a side by side comparison of the two and figure out which one you like more.

With all that said, I am greatly leaning towards the Vox for two reasons. One: I can picture it being mor suited to my tastes since I am finally getting over that "the more DS the better" stage, so I am playing ALOT of clean and mild OD now. I also like my midrange, so the vox would be good for that. Two: Everybody around here seems to haave a crybaby. I hate beign like everybody else.

The V8467 isnt true bypass but if you get teh V848 clyde mccoy wah it is and it has the updated pot on it so its a V847 basically modded.
And Me personally I'm buying a vox V847 and modding it. From what you described I would tell you to do the same.

I would love to post some clips. However, there is the slight setback that I have absolutely no way to record myself. If anyone wants to donate equipment to a poor college student though...
And yes, the Vox V848 is essentially a V847 modded to be true bypass. However, it is much more cost effective to simply do the mod yourself.
