Searching for an Effect
Question: Alright, so don't think I'm crazy. But I am. So I guess it doesn't really matter. I get a lot of those catalogs for different online music stores, and I remember reading an ad for, what I believe was called an enhancer. I remember this in the description: ". . .solo guitarist looking to add meaningful bass lines. . . " Not much to work on, but I have a feeling that it could greatly help me in beefing up my praise team because we don't have a bassist(but we do. . . it's an odd situation). So, any help would be nice. I know that this is horribly broad, but I will definately be able to benefit from said pedal. Answer: You could use a looper to record a bass line, and then switch to guitar... or just play the bass line on your guitar. You could use an octave pedal to add bass punch to your guitar solos... or just to add punch to everything. You could use a sonic maximizer / aural enhancer to add clarity to the low end of your sound... or everything. You could use an equalizer to add emphasis to the low end of your sound... or to give you an overall fullness. Does any of that sound about right? Answer: "You could use a sonic maximizer / aural enhancer to add clarity to the low end of your sound... or everything." Ding ding ding! Bells and whistles go off. OK, now can I ask what the best of said effect is? Also, that said, would I be looking for a bass (see above) or just a guitar (see above)? Answer: Well, really the one that started it all is the BBE Sonic Maximizer, which comes in pedal, DI, and rack forms. (see another recent thread in here... haha) As I said in that thread, however, you should really research what exactly the pedal / effect is intended to do before you buy it as a "magic pill" of sorts to help you with your lack of bass. The Sonic Maximizer is a great tool, but can be overdone in an effort to get it to do something it was never intended to do. Answer: Well, lets say I'm looking at pedals. There are certain pedals for electric guitar, and certain pedals for bass. Since I'm looking to enhance the low end of my guitar, would I be buying the pedal for bass, or simply the guitar pedal? If you're still confused, think this: There is guitar distortion and bass distortion. Obviously, each is slightly different for it's respective intrument. So, would I but a bass enhancer or a guitar enhancer? Answer: ... there is no pedal that can give you bass lines on a guitar. You could perhaps get an octave pedal. If you just want to enhance the low end, couldn't you just turn up the lows on your EQ? Answer: Originally Posted by Beyer413 Well, lets say I'm looking at pedals. The sonic maximizer / aural enhancer is not designed for instruments, but for sound. It is useful for any amplified sound, yes, but its primary purpose is to fix inherent flaws. You can use it on anything, because it is designed for a sound system, not an instrument. If you see a separate guitar and bass enhancer, someone's pulling your leg. Just buy the BBE. Answer: I'm not as much looking to make it louder, perhaps I should've said this. However, I want to bring it out. As a choral singer, especially in vocal jazz, there are notes you bring out(typically the 7th, 9th, 11th, and 13th). Bring out, however, does not mean get louder. It means use a more focused tone. That said, I am literally looking to "focus" my low end. Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.thanktoday.com
