Peavy Transtube Bandit 112

Question:
I bought my first amp today! No more borrowing from dad. I absolutely love this thing. It's got great sound, decent settings, it's small enough to practice with yet big enough to blow people's socks off. I think it's an 80 watt amp? but it has a jack for a 100 watt external speaker. My friend had one and I really liked it, and when I saw this one today after thinking about how I need my own before I go away to school, I jumped at it.
I got it for $200, and I think it's a 2002 model. Was that a good deal or what?
PS for a solid state amp, the tone is awesome.
Answer:
The Peavey Transtube amps have a reputation for being the best of the tube-emulating circuit amps on the market.
Answer:
Cool man, congrats!
Answer:
Congrats!
Answer:
saweet. I am wanting to try out a transtube, but Ihaven't gotten an oppurtunity, being that my GC doesn't carry peaveys
Answer:
sweet, i have a little peavey transtube thats pretty good
Answer:
That is great. They are very good for a SS amp. I like tube amps but I've had my share of SS amps too. It sounds like you got a really good deal.
I've been to the Peavey factory in Meridian MS for a training course when I worked for a dealer. Near the entrance they have a glass room called the fishbowl where they have a bunch of guitars & amps to test out. It was a blast.

Nathanael,
Congrats!!
I just bought the Bandit 112 last Sat (new) but frankly am a little disappointed...wondering if I'm doing something wrong but I'm getting lots of noise. Palm-muting especially, and when not playing -- idle seems to have lots of noise. did you encounter this?
I PM'd a couple folks about the Valveking 112 but am wondering if I should have gone with that ... -jack

The Valve King would be the choice if you want a genuine tube amp.
The TransTube amps...meh...I used to own an Express 112, one step below the Bandit 112, and at first I thought it sounded ok. Then I heard it next to some genuine decent quality tube amps and realized how far off the mark Peavey was with TransTube.
But for amps-on-a-budget, the TransTube series are not awful. My daughter plays through a Rage 158, the smallest of TransTubes, and it's a fine practice amp. If she needs more "umph" then she can use my Peavey Classic 20 or Delta Blues 210.
Jack, what kind of "noise" are you getting?

I'm still learning to play, so my ears aren't as well trained as many on this forum, but they also had a Classic 30 at my local store ... I think it was $100 more ($479 maybe?) but after all the positives I've heard about that amp, maybe I should bite the bullet and get that.
As for noise, when I was in the same (small) room with it, I got typical feedback. However, when I backed out of that room into the next room, about 15-20 ft from the amp, I still had this hiss, or static both when I'm not actually playing, or after the chord starts to fade, it seems to almost sustain forever (but not in a good way...) Sorry if this doesn't seem to make sense, but that's how I'd describe it ...
Answer:
$200 is a great deal for that amp, congrates!
I love Peavey stuff and the badit does have some killer tone even for SS, I put one up against a Marshall MG100 (solid state) and I liked the Peavey better.
My first tube amp was a Peavey Ultra 112 and wow, what amazing tone!
Answer:
Jack,
it sounds like the noise you're getting is 60-cycle hum that's a guitar related issue and not amp related. is this your first guitar amp, or have you ever noticed this problem in the past? from the symptoms of what you're saying, i'm really thinking pickup hum/grounding issue
Answer:
Id say take it back in favor of the classic 30!
Answer:
Does it make alot of sound with the gain cranked or at clean?
Usually (esp. with single coils) hi-gain is hi-noise too

no, i have Peavey Rage 158 and didn't notice it on there. I have Ibanez SA160, with SSH config. I played MY guitar in the store and didn't notice it there ... tried shutting off a nearby flourescent light ...
