Question about my Distortion Pedal.

Question:
Alright so I have a Johnson EQ Distortion Pedal.
It has been working fine.
Until the past couple days.
The volume sounds like its weak..( Hope you understand what I mean. )
Is this because the battery is weak?
Or could it be something else?
Answer:
Well, um, batteries are cheap, so it certainly wouldn't hurt to check that.
Also, just make sure you haven't accidentally adjusted any settings.
Answer:
Its making this terrible whining noise as well.
I turn all the nobs down and try to reset them but it keeps whining non-stop.
Due to the whining and other odd noises coming from the pedal when the effect is on, I doubt it has anything to do with the battery. Perhaps the amp..But it sounds fine when the effect is off. Any ideas?

Any ideas? have you replaced the battery yet? An underpowered battery can cause all sorts of weird artifacts.
Answer:
Sounds like the battery. My Seymour Duncan clean boost did really odd things with the gain of the pedal when the battery needed changing.
