Improvisation at home to a CD
Question: Good idea or bad idea: finding a song on a cd to solo to, to practice technique etc? Does this work well for other people? Answer: this is a great way to practice. What I find is fun and productive is to find a song with very little leads in it and just solo around to the rythem, and get some neat call response stuff going. Answer: That's how I learned how to play guitar! And also, It will kind of help you when you jam with other people. Answer: If you have a recording program of some sort, it would also be a good idea to record a chord progression, then loop it and solo over that. I haven't tried it with what I have, but it should work. Answer: Sometimes I just sit in front of the radio and do that. It's really fun. Answer: I love doing this...I have tons of music on my laptop (hooked up to some speakers), so I can just pick a song and work on the rhythm (like Third Day's "I Have Always Loved You") or lead stuff (some country songs/Don Francisco stuff)...
