I gave that song you posted on mp3.com a listen, and it's very cool, I must say. Very impressive technically and tight production. Overall I like it. However, I do have a few bits of constructive criticism to pass on:
- Maybe it's just personal preference, but I'm not really into synth very much. I'm not sure if everything that I'm thinking is synth actually is, or if it's an electric guitar using a ton of effects, but either way, I would look for ways to lessen the "synthersizerness" of the song. Try to make it a little more organic and living sounding.
- I don't think I'm sold on the lead singer's voice. Again, this may just be personal preference, but his voice sounds a little lifeless and flat (not as in out of tune, but as in being static and boring) to me.
- I don't think the vocal melody is all it could be. The instrumental stuff is really amazing, but I think you might be able to come up with melodic material that is more interesting and holds the listener's interest a little better.
- Lastly, the lyrics sound a tad bit trite and cliche to me. But that doesn't make them any less true or life changing. Just make sure you really believe what you're singing and that your life backs up that belief. In the future, I would suggest trying to come up with lyrics that make your listener think a little more. If you're target audience is the Christian crowd (and I'm assuming it is), then most of them have heard everything you're saying many times before. It's more likely to make an impact if the same message is presented in a way that really makes them think about what it really means to be redeemed as opposed to lyrics that rely on Christian phrases they've heard their whole life but never truly understood.
Like I said, I'm very impressed. What did you use to record it? Do you guys have some other songs to post?
I'd also like some constructive criticism on my band's music. As nice as it is to hear someone say "you guys rock," I'd be much more interested in hearing constructive criticism so that we can get better. Hearing how great we are doesn't help us improve. I have some comments on your songs:
Charade- The girl singer should not try to force the notes out. It sounds like she has troble hitting ane/or sustaining some of the notes. The melody/harmony is pretty good.harmony could be just a little more tighter. Ireally like the piano and bongos..it gives the song a VERY cool feel.
Never mind- Good lyrics.. and again, i like the piano and bongos very good song.:kcool: :klol:
