Where in the fret do I put the capo?
Question: I have been playing guitar since I was about 10...and I have only really used Capo at home, not in woship band. So I don't have a lot of experience with one. My then boyfriend, now husband bought me the capo, I don't know what brand it is, (not Kyser) - anyway, the one I've got seems to make the strings buzz a bit. Low and high E mainly. Should the capo go in the middle of the fret or closer to the fret wire? Ideally I'd buy a new one, but my husband gave it to me a few years ago when he was still only my boyfriend, and he got it engraved and everything. It says "For God, For Love, For Rock!" Advise please Answer: You should put it close to the fret wire but not right on top of it. Is the tension adjustable? Answer: I put the leading edge of my capo as close to the fret crown as possible. Answer: And more specifically, as close to the higher-numbered fret as possible without funny buzzing sounds happening... Sometimes when I use a partial-capo setup, I'll shade toward the middle or back of the fret because I need to reach over and fret a string that's beyond the capo's reach. Tuning the guitar is always a pain in the neck then (because placing the capo in the middle or back of the fret gives more room for "slop" in the tuning and induces more bend in the string), but when you gotta, you gotta.
