new to lead
Question: Hello, Im a newbe here but not to using the tabs to this wonderful site. I have been playin guitar since 1999. Everything I play is by ear and i only know standard chords. I am working on my chords and I play at my church as rythm guitar. Well this week they have request that I move to lead and someone with very little experience start rythm. The problem is I have no idea what it is to be lead. Can anyone steer me to the right direction? What should I be focusing one learning and what does it mean to lead? Thanks for the help. God bless, JCSATURNSC2 Answer: Lead is just random notes on guitar pretty much. You might want to get into lessons and learn like what key the worship team would be playing in. Answer: First, tell them you're not ready to take on lead. What "lead guitar" is generally all about is playing anything except for chords. It takes knowing all manners of scales and licks that you can bust out during a song. Lead players generally need to have a good idea of how to improvise, and have a pretty solid confidence level. There are plenty of good threads aobut this in the guitar forum, just type in "lead guitar" in the search box. Answer: If they mean play lead guitar, yeah, it's pretty much playing bits of scales over parts of the song. If they mean to lead worship, though, you just have to nod to whoever else is also playing when to chime in with vocals or anything else. The second isn't too hard. Answer: Um... leading worship is a rather dedicated commitment... Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.thanktoday.com
