CGR P&W song database (opensong)

Question:
we are using opensong to manage our songs (chord charts, overhead transparencies, ...) and i was wondering if any of you guys are interested in collecting everybody's song archive to build up a more or less "huge" song database?

i could think of two benefits:

1) for some songs there is more than one possibility to play them (e.g. "i could sing of your love forever", and no, i don't mean just a different key), so you get to know different versions of songs

2) you get to know new songs. although it's hard to sing a song of which you don't know the melody, there are usually always ways to get songs (either cds from friends, itunes for single songs, or maybe someone on the forum records the song, ...)

so what do you guys think?

p.s.: i know that there are a lot of different "song managing"-tools. the best way to build such a database would be to create a "standard"-format and provide different exporters for the different tools (opensong, mediashout, ...). but that's a lot of work
Answer:
oops, i just saw the sticky thread "Worship Resource Index / "What's In Your Library?". sometimes the most obvious thing is the last thing you find out about
although that's already a good starting point, everybody who wants to add a song to his/her library would have to find the chords somewhere and probably enter the manually.

and i forgot: i am not sure if there are any copyright issues involved (CCLI, etc...). this point should be clarified.
Answer:
I only use OpenSong for lyrics projection. If I have time this summer I may try building up a large database of songs in there, It could be a very useful program in that respect. assuming CCLI stuff is ok it would be easy to share .zip files of the 'songs' folder and that would enable the addition of everyone elses songs to your folder.
Answer:
What's OpenSong?
Answer:
It's an open source program for storing and projecting lyrics for worship. it's a great little program, go to www.opensong.org to find out more and download it
Answer:
Does Opensong print lead sheets? If so, how do you get them into the program? Scanning or typing in? Currently, I have most of my stuff on PrintMusic (Finale). However, it usually makes more sense to re-enter a piece of music than to scan it in because of all of the correcting that needs to be done to the notes afterward. Plus, scanning does not pick up the chords or lyrics. ?????
Thanks,
Wendi
Answer:
I use PrintMusic at home to generate lead sheets if Song Select doesn't already have them available.
I'll have to look into OpenSong.
We're currently using...I forget the name of it...not Sunday Plus but something similar to it for all of our lyrics and backgrounds, etc.
It's ok...Windows-based so I'm always suspect of it's ability to properly launch and function because so many times on different computers there have been "issues" with it for no reason whatsoever.
If I could only get these people switched to using Macs...
Answer:
afaik, opensong is available on mac too, but i haven't tested it due to the lack of mac...

i also haven't had the possibilty to try the ccli integration. so maybe there is not really the need for a "huge database" because ccli already provides such thing.
please correct me, if i am wrong...
Answer:
OpenSong is amazing. I proudly support it now.

are you interested in sharing the songs? i'll ask the guy from my church if he could give them to me, so i can put them up here.
Answer:
Yeah. i could share songs no problemo. Just let me know what you want. I'm also working on putting more songs in there as well.
