Song Selection - week of May 21, 2006

Question:
Message Series: Redefining Community
I don't know what order we are doing these songs - I am not leading, the student minister is. I am playing backup acoustic and singing backup. And one of these songs will be deleted later on (we typically do five songs)
All Because Of You (D)
Everything Glorious (Db)
You Are My Joy (E)
Empty Me (F#)
Consuming Fire (G)
Wonderful Maker (C)
Message Title: Faith-Filled Community (Graduation Sunday)
Answer:
This week it's youth sunday at our church. Since my wife and I are both youth leaders and happen to help lead the youth band, we are fortunate enough to have the wonderful oppurtunity to participate in the services. This is especially exciting for me because we do the music in a style that is much more toward my own personal musical likings. In other words, we tend to rock out a bit more than your average Sunday There's also no organ
Prelude:
Tower - Brad Kilman - Am
Worship Songs:
All who are thirsty - D with a very U2-ish vibe
Every Move I make - G
Indescribable - Bm
In Christ Alone - D

Song of thanksgiving:
Chorus of All who are Thirsty
Special Music:
My Jesus - Todd Agnew
Offertory:
For the moments I feel faint - Relient K - E
Closing Song:
Enough - G

Ha ha, yeah. I should maybe clarify about our weekly situation - we sing more than 2 - 3 songs a week as a congregation, but I only ever put the 2-3 contemporary songs we do because those are the only songs for the week that I know of beforehand that we're going to be singing. The other songs are hymns and choir anthems, but the band unfortunately does not get to participate in those. To me, one of the sad results of trying to have a blended service is that our band comes up for their two songs kind of like a side show in the midst of "real" service. I know that the church has come a long way though, and it seems to work for a number of people so I don't complain too much right now. Bottom line is I usually just put the songs that I'm involved with.

I hate this feeling too....something that I've had to deal with. I spent many years making a sideshow of myself, and the Lord has called me out of that. I hate feeling like it's anything like a show....~Shawn

His is just the most recently released recording of that song. Others have also recorded it - same melody, some rhythmic differences. I like Brian's arrangement better than the early 90's version (my brain is slipping on who recorded the early 90's version, but thinking something like "Phillips, Craig, and Dean")

The first one to record it was Michael English, although "Craig" of Phillips, Craig and Dean wrote the song, and they performed it later on one of their cd's along with the other "In Christ Alone".
I find myself feeling sad for actually knowing those facts.
