Guitar Teacher Thread (Discussion of format)
Question: Everyone... What do you think about the idea on having a stickied thread that promotes guitar instructors. They can be yourself, or a teacher that you have that would not mind having contact information put on the net. We can post websites or email addresses or something. The reason I bring this is up is that there doesn't seem to be really a database out there for guitar instructors, or I didn't search very good or long enough. I know we want to refrain from having Emails listed do to spamming but what about websites if the instructor has one. Or for example, I could be the contact info for my instructor and if you want email info you could PM me and I could forward to you. It would be nice if it could be sorted by state. Or we could leave headers at the top of each post and it would be mandatory to post the state the teacher is and the closest big city or something so it could be possibly searched better. What do you guys think... It would be nice to have a database of good teachers though... Answer: Hey Leviathon! I will never be a great guitar teacher OR student, because I owe somebody two DVDs still that I keep forgetting to give back to him!!! I think this idea is awesome, although since CGR is worldwide you might find the list getting too diluted. But it's worth a try! Although if Cheshire makes it to this thread, he will ask everyone to delete the list and just read Fretboard Logic. Answer: Hey as a hobby, I teach for free usually n sometimes have donations from my students There's a simple webbie I have and I'm also looking for teachers to learn more from Answer: If you're able to come up with a standard "format" for sharing pertinent information (see the Theology forum's database for user beliefs for an example) and some instructions as to what the thread is for and what it is not for, I'll give it a sticky. In it's present form (not sure about a lot of things), it needs to be developed. One would think that you would need to have it broken down by state or region. At first maybe you could break it down by northeast, midwest, southeastern, west, etc... Than as the database grows we may need to to then break it down by state. Or we could start it that way from the beginning, that maybe the best way. Each entry should include City and State (or the nearest major city for reference). The teachers name. His style of teaching; Shred, Rock, blues, Jazz, acoustic, or all the above. Years of experience - Years teaching - Contact info - This can be a website or email or something. I'm not sure what is allowable... The thread can only be used as a tool of information. Should not be used as a tool for feedback or anything. Purley a tool to look up guitar teachers within a certain area. Any other suggestions... Answer: Originally Posted by Jay42 Hey Leviathon! Kalel is doing good and growing fast. I started taking lessons from the other Rob, Rob Metz and dude he is a great teacher. Has helped me mucho dinero. Also much closer. Him and Tittl kind of went seperate ways. They are still friends and all, just decided to do their own thing. Rob just released his first Solo albumn. He actually had help from Neil Zaza and members of Zaza's band in recording the albumn. Check out his website www.robmetz.com And actually he does use the CAGED format in his teaching to an extent. But his ability to show you how to apply the theory behind it really helped me out. He opended up modes too. I think I actually understand it and how to use when applicable. Talk to ya later... How about their students enter info as well. My teacher may not want to come on here and sign up and put his info on here. But I don't think he would mind if I did. Answer: Ok, I took bob's post, split it out, and stickied it for now. I'll leave this thread open for a little while longer to discuss any improvements/changes we may want to make. My prayers for your healthy baby were obviously answered. Originally Posted by Leviathon I started taking lessons from the other Rob, Rob Metz and dude he is a great teacher. AWESOME! I might copy you sometime and start going there someday, maybe. Originally Posted by Leviathon Talk to ya later... Good to hear from you. In fact, just PM me here on CGR to keep in touch with me, or post on these threads. Because my work e-mail is going through all kinds of changes and they don't let us use work e-mail anyway for external use anymore. And of course I will get you your two DVDs back to you somehow/some way! Jay P.S. - Back on topic, I think just a list starting with STATE, then CITY, then teacher info would be good. And at the end we can list a section for "Outside of the U.S." since there will be some but not as many. Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.thanktoday.com
