Review of Passion's CD "Everything Glorious"

Question:
Well, I've listened to it for awhile now, so I think I can make a pretty good review/analysis of this CD.
Song #1: Awesome Is The Lord Most High - 7/10
I think this song doesn't start off very well, and it's Tomlin, which means it's going to be too high for me to sing in the regular key, which means it will be frustrating to a few of my band members who don't like it when I change the original key. But it's a solid song.
Song #2: Glorious - 7/10
Again, too high. But I really like the interraction between Tomlin and Christy Nockels on this song.
Song #3: Party - 0/10
This is now my least favorite Passion song. It's stupid. And this is an indicator of an annoying feature of this CD - worship leader starts the song, pauses for 30 seconds to work the crowd up, and then starts it up again (see later songs to see what I mean)
Song #4: Jesus Paid It All - 10/10
One thing I do love about Passion is that they do a great job of taking hymns and jazzing them up. This one was led by Kristian Stanfill, my favorite worship leader as of right now. I heard from a friend of mine that a couple of people from his church went to the Passion event, and when Kristian came up and started leading, they said to each other, "Who is this guy?" My response to that is "who the heck cares who it is? Was he not on your list of pre-approved worship leaders? Because his name isn't Chris, David, Charlie or Matt? Grrr."
Anyway, this is my favorite song on the CD.
Song #5: All We Need - 8/10
If you know me, you know my dislike for Charlie Hall's involvement with Passion. I just don't like his songs. His latest CD, Flying Into Daybreak, has left me pleasantly surprised, however, and I really like this song off of it. I took off two marks because of the annoying electronica that starts this song.
Song #6: Center - 7/10
Again - pleasantly surprised.
Song #7: We Are Yours - 5/10
Don't like the sound of this song.
Song #8: You Never Let Go - 7/10
Or as I like to call it, Blessed Be Your Name Part 2. But I like the idea. I think there should be more Lament type songs written, and Matt Redman has written two good ones.
Song #9: I Stand Amazed - 7/10
Another great reworking of a hymn. I like Tomlin's voice on this one. Again, too high.
Song #10: Everything Glorious - 5/10
I was disappointed in David Crowder most of all with this CD. I didn't like the ones off A Collision for the passion CD. He should have gone with Foreverandever, etc. and Wholly Yours in my opinion. This new one doesn't impress me at all.
Song #11: You Are My Joy - 5/10
Here we see the feature of starting the song, waiting 30 seconds, and starting it up again - again. What's the freaking point? If it's to work the crowd into a frenzy, why don't you just drop live scorpions from the ceiling. A lot more effective, and you don't have to waste a song doing so.
Song #12: We Win - 3/10
Putting this song on a worship CD reminds me of the time when I took my student ministry to a conference. Actually, I think our worship band was the band for the conference. Anyway, the speaker closes out his message and says, "Let's pray. Dear Satan..." We were all a little perplexed at first, to say the least.
How does this relate? Because who is the song "We Win" directed to?
We've already won and you don't stand a chance...
It doesn't sound like a song directed to God, does it? David Crowder, what happened to you on this CD?
Song #13: Our God Reigns - 5/10
Disappointing ending, in my opinion. Let's sing the same thing for six and a half minutes! Yes! No.
Extra Song #1: Salvation Is Here - 9/10
This song was not included on the full-length CD but was offered on an early release EP from iTunes.
Again, Kristian Stanfill does a great job. This song is a Hillsongs United song, one of my favorites. I don't think it's as powerful as the original Hillsongs version, but it's still great. I don't know why this song didn't make the final cut, personally.
Extra Song #2: Made To Worship - 7/10
This was also offered on an early release EP from iTunes. I like it. Good song.
So that's my take on this CD. What about you?
Answer:
Song #1: Awesome Is The Lord Most High - 70
I agree, not the best start for the song or the album. I like the actual song though and its message.
Song #2: Glorious - 80
I give props to Chirs Tomlin for writing a good worship song that is out of the normal chord progressions that you see in modern Passion type stuff. I definatly like Christy Nockels in the song but my question is where does she go after that verse? she can barely be heard.
Song #3: Party - 10
From what I hear, this is a song that you had to be there for. I also hear that it somewhat pertained to the message, but I don't know any of this for sure. I dont like the song very much if at all.
Song #4: Jesus Paid It All - 90
Kristian Stanfill could be one of the next Passion members if he wrote his own songs. I've seen him do this before at 7:22 but it sounds better on this cd. I also like the additional part written by Alex (the lead guitarist).
Song #5: All We Need - 90
I like the song. I never had really gotten into much of Charlie Hall's stuff aside form Marvelous Light but this CD has opened my eyes. I like the start of this song, it think its good.
Song #6: Center - 90
I heard this song at 7:22 a while back and I immediately liked it.
Song #7: We Are Yours - 60
I like the song but I don't think its one of the best.
Song #8: You Never Let Go - 80
I have never really like Matt Redman as much as the other Passion guys but I love how he incorperates scripture into his songs and then makes it his own.
Song #9: I Stand Amazed - 90
As Adam said, Passion does a great job of adding their own touch to hymns.
Song #10: Everything Glorious - 40
What happened here? The song sounds very plain. Maybe its a preview of a new song that isn't finished. I don't know what to say about it.
Song #11: You Are My Joy - 70
I personally enjoy when David does the longer gap in between the Pre-C and Chorus, like the song in general, and think it was pulled off well.
Song #12: We Win - 50
I kinda like the song but not how he does it here. I don't like the end part where the whole "ohhhhh, ohhhh" thing goes on with the beat, but then again, it is David Crowder, a crazy man.
Song #13: Our God Reigns - 70
I like the piano. Yes it is quite repetative but this sound like more of a closing song about to go into a message/ invitation. I like how the 4 Passion guys come out and sing together, that is an original idea that I have never seen done before.
Extra Song #1: Salvation Is Here - 80
This is not one of Kristian's best preformances of this song but it is still a good one.
Extra Song #2: Made To Worship - ??
Never heard this song. Were there two EP's or somthing?
There is my take on the CD.

Yes, there were.

This song has a cool guitar riff at the beginning and that's about it. Chris Tomlin singing "Paaaaa-rrrrrty is about the lamest thing I've ever heard. It might have been cool in the moment, but it should have been the first song given the axe from this CD.
Answer:
Song #1: Awesome Is The Lord Most High - 7/10
I didn't like it at first, but it quickly grew on me. It doesn't blow me away, but I think its a solid song with a catchy melody.
Song #2: Glorious - 5/10
This song just doesn't do it for me...and I hate the line "Glorious...over us"
Song #3: Party - 1/10
It gets a 1 only because its better than "We're Gonna Dance in the River." ...a bunch of girls I know that went to Passion kept telling me how great this song was...SERIOUSLY, I guess you had to be there.
Song #4: Jesus Paid It All - 10/10
This has probably been my favorite rendition of a hymn ever since I first heard Stanfill do it on 7:22 (over a year ago). Kristian quickly became one of my favorite worship leaders. On a really bizzare note...this past January he led worship at a retreat for the youth group I grew up in. I interacted with him a little bit. It was truly sureal. Just two weeks early he was at Passion leading worship for 18,000 students...and a week later he was on an e.p. that was in the top 10 on iTunes. Weird stuff...small world!
Song #5: All We Need - 5/10
I just find this song bland. It just doesn't do anything for me.
Song #6: Center - 5/10
Samething. It just doesn't grab me.
Song #7: We Are Yours - 3/10
....ugggghhhh...Charlie.....why must you write these songs? At least "Sweep Me Away" had a cool melody (...well I've heard others do "Sweep Me Away" really well).
Song #8: You Never Let Go - 9/10
Normally I like Matt's songs but not his renditions. Not the case with this one. This is a solid song and a solid rendition. I was very pleasantly surprised.
Song #9: I Stand Amazed - 7/10
I like reworked hymns. This is a good reworking. I'm just not crazy about the song.
Song #10: Everything Glorious - 7/10
I actually enjoy this song. Its not incredible. It doesn't blow me away, but I like it. Its subtle. I can understand why some think its bland, but it just happens to click with me.
Song #11: You Are My Joy - 7/10
I actually really enjoy this live recording. I like the live version more than the studio version. I probably would have given it an 8 but I don't think it belongs on this CD. It was cool to have it in an iTunes bundle, but putting it on the CD as well was really disappointing. I would have MUCH MUCH prefered a live version of Wholly Yours. O well....
Song #12: We Win - 6/10
Once again, I actually prefer the live version to the studio version. However, I'm really not sure what its doing on this CD. When I originally saw the track listing for this CD, I was baffled by this particular selection. I don't get it at all.
Song #13: Our God Reigns - 8/10
It may be repetative, but I really like it. It gets my approval
Extra Song #1: Salvation Is Here - 9/10
I was very pleasantly surprised to find this song headlining the first iTunes bundle. Its a solid rendition (I like it more than the United version), and its bringing Kristian into the spotlight. It would have been really nice "Party" was bumped off the CD and this song was put on instead. In fact, it would have been wonderful if these two songs just swapped.
When he played this one at the retreat he really got the crowd going. He played with a ton of passion.
Extra Song #2: Made To Worship - 6/10
Its not bad, but its not great either. All of Chris' new songs have come off rather bland to me. I'm getting a bit worried about his next CD.
Answer:
I am curious to hear this Jesus Paid it All. I rather like the hymn but, from what I have heard, I don't like most of the arrangements of hymns done on Passion discs. I find most of the songs on their Hymns CD to be cheap bastardizations, but I am just going by sound clips I have heard.
Answer:
I don't know if you would like it then if you don't like other Passion reworkings of hymns.
They added a "chorus"? Bridge? I don't know what it is.
O praise the one who paid my debt
And raised this life up from the dead
(repeat 4x)

I've thought about this before. It's the only thing I don't like about the song. Although, if we can rebuke Satan and his minions, why can't we sing a song telling him he's got no chance? But I agree, it doesn't belong in the midst of other worship songs directed to God.
Song #1: Awesome Is The Lord Most High - 10/10
I don't understand why all of you don't like this song that much. I love it, and it's probably my favorite on the CD.
Song #2: Glorious - 6/10
Too high to sing, and I don't like the chorus.
Song #3: Party - 1/10
Very crazy song. It's Dance in the River pt. 2. Dance in the River was the biggest inside joke in our youth group a couple years ago. Although I enjoy the song, I would hate doing it for worship. This one is much worse. I don't even enjoy the song musically.
Song #4: Jesus Paid It All - 10/10
Agreed, I love almost all the hymn arrangements Passion does. This one is no exception. And I love Kristian Stanfill. If I was a girl, I'd marry him.
Song #5: All We Need - 7/10
Wow, I thought I was the only one that despised most of Charlie Hall's stuff. The only song I ever liked of his was Marvellous Light (and Madly to some extent). Salvation, Sweep Me Away, Sending, All The Earth, Prepare the Way, etc, ooh me no likey.
But I think it's the general sentiment that his songs on this CD are much better than his normal stuff.
Song #6: Center - 9/10
First Charlie Hall song ever that I actually want to introduce.
Song #7: We Are Yours - 3/10
Hmm, just when I thought he was getting better this song comes along.
Song #8: You Never Let Go - 4/10
I actually do not like this song very much at all. I like the words. The music that he put to it is awful IMHO. Perhaps it will grow on me. But right now, I don't like it.
Song #9: I Stand Amazed - 10/10
WOW, This is an awesome rendition of this hymn. I like the quiet start and the big finish, and the builds, and the passion. They ain't called Passion for nothing.
Song #10: Everything Glorious - 6/10
Two things: 1) Good song musically 2) Not a good congregational song at all
Song #11: You Are My Joy - 8/10
I don't mind the pauses.
Song #12: We Win - 3/10
Like I already mentioned, I like the song, but it doesn't belong here.
Song #13: Our God Reigns - 6/10
I was hoping they were gonna do a modern rendition of the old song "Our God Reigns" (you know, this one) So I was disappointed when it wasn't that song. I think it would be a pretty incredible song being there, but not listening to it on a CD.
Extra Song #1: Salvation Is Here - 5/10
I haven't actually heard this version, but I've heard Kristian do it plenty of times on 7|22 to be able to guess what it sounds like. Personally, I never liked this song since it came out on Look To You. Not bad as far as music goes, but what the heck are people meaning when they sing "Salvation is here"? I have no idea. And Salvation never DIED to set me free!! Jesus died to set me free! Since when do you call Jesus salvation just for the sake of the rhythm of a song? I think they're just ripping off Switchfoot's Dare You To Move line.
Extra Song #2: Made To Worship - ?/10
Never heard it.
Overall, I'm a big fan of the album because of the few great songs. But other Passion albums have been better rounded.
Answer:
I've only heard the portion of "Glorious" that's on New Song Cafe right now, and it sounds like Chris is going with the interchangeable cliches pulled from various other worship songs. Bland, predictable lyrics.
Answer:
I've ordered this CD and it's on its way, I'll post a review when I've had chance to listen to it. This is the first Passion CD i've got, I have the Soul Survivor (UK) live albums from the last 8 years and I'll be interested to see how they compare.
God bless, Rich

It doesn't sound like a song directed to God, does it? David Crowder, what happened to you on this CD?
I feel that it's an exhortation song - like "Sing like the Saved."
Who says that songs have to be directed to God? They could relate to our own situation, or be sung as a prayer, or whatever. I see no problem with a song that, in essence, proclaims victory.

A song in worship could be directed to each other, like "How Great Is Our God"... it's like we're discussing how great God is among ourselves.
But a song directed to Satan?

Well, you've established that it's unusual. Is it wrong though?
Answer:
A worship song to Satan is probably a little more than weird.
Okay, I'm not saying it's a worship song to Satan, and I did like the song on the actual Crowder CD. But to put this song on a worship CD like Passion is beyond weird.

Is it the wisest use of space on arguably the most popular/wide spread/influential annual worship CD? Probably not.
