depending on the song... yes.
Answer:
My guess is that it's usually keyboard or a MIDI sequencer. But that's just a guess.
Nate
Answer:
It's usually just a sample played through a MIDI sequencer. It can be layered with a bass guitar, and drums, but usually that's beefed with lots of eq and such.
Answer:
most of the time they use keyboards or a computer program to make beats. my uncle's are music producers and thats wut they use.
Answer:
Are you talking about the beats themselves? If so yeah they are sampled through a MIDI sequencer, sometimes they use a real band, but for like recording purposes, and because sometimes the beats get so repeditive they use the MIDI. My uncle did have a live band in his studio, but they played to the sequence that was already sampled.
but they use both depending on what their doing.
Answer:
Rap "beats" are usually made with cheap drum machines and lame synthesizers.

Im apalled...no need for the sarcasim lol
Answer:
That wasn't sarcasm. Rap music has, without question, the WORST drum and bass sounds of any genre.
Answer:
You mean that sound that hurts your ears when you pull up to some pimpin truck that has the music way to loud? Probably liek other people said, a lame synth or whatever

Rap doesn't have bad beats and sounds. Perhaps they aren't to your taste, but you can't by any means lump all of the together as sub-standard.
Answer:
What Daniel said wasn't really far from the truth and wasn't even an assessment of the quality of rap music, either... at least as far as rap producers are concerned. I have read articles in Keyboard magazine before about rap producers using old Casio keyboards and no-name drum machines simply because they have such horrible sounding patches. For whatever reason, the cheesy, lame, cheap sounds that these "cheap drum machines and lame synthesizers" produce are actually relatively popular with, it seems, quite a few people who make rap music professionally.

Thank you
You cant be totally biased on the subject..yea its okay to voice your opinion but to say Rap music has the WORST beats of any genre is kind of harsh, and unnecessarally bashing on someone elses thing. Now i couldnt say that i dont like rock music because it has too much screaming because not all rock has hardcore or screamo in it. So you cant just say that Rap beats are the WORST just because they use synth or some other form of making beats other than a good drum set and bass guitar. Now for me i love both because both are diverse and have a style all their own.
