Hey,
i am trying to learn how to read tab. the part i had trouble with is the numbers on the examples. what do they mean. i know zero means play string open but the other numbers confuse me.

Yup! all u gotta do is find the string letter (D is the lowest, but i assume ud now that) and the number. With tab tho, you dont know how long the note lasts, so you need to know the song. If you now how to read sheet music then you should probably use that.

The numbers mark the frets that should be played. The individual lines of numbers represent the string that each note is played on. If there's no sheet music to accompany the tab, the spacing between the numbers on each line of tab kind of indicate the relative rhythm.
