floor moniters??
Question: im from a small church, and we dont have a lot of fancy stuff, especially since our church got broken into a couple of weeks ago and took our sound system, but besides that.. moniters are those speakers that face you right? what's the point of those? are they really needed? i've been to some big churchs before and ive seen some fancy worship teams, i noticed that the electric guitarist always has like his own little amp thing, same as the bassist too, what are those things? Answer: Yes, the floor moniters are for hearing the singers and whatever you got going on in your church. Its just so you can hear it all so yu can stay together. I use a moniter too because I need to hear the leader to know where we are. And the little amp thingys are amps Answer: proper monitoring (whether by PA monitors or otherwise) are VERY important. are they really needed? well instruments, sound systems, etc. aren't REALLY needed...but in alot of cases they sure do help. Proper monitoring helps the whole band stay together, and allows the vocalists to find their different parts and also hear themselves if they start to go offkey. Answer: This probably ought to be in the new Live sound forum Answer: Originally Posted by onebrickshy This probably ought to be in the new Live sound forum Okay. Answer: The floor monitors aren't necessary if you have a really small group, for example my church is also small, and all we have is piano, drums, and a couple singers for sunday worship. Since the piano and drums are adjacent, I never had problems hearing everything, as the drummer. If you have a small group in a small area, you can do without monitors, but it becomes more important quickly as the group gets larger. Answer: Like Rainer said, you can get by without them in a small area. But if you have a large band or have a wide stage, you'll need them. You typically have several different monitor mixes also. That means that different monitors have different things coming out. I think my youth group has 3 monitor mixes, since the vocalist side requires different levels than the guitarist side. An alternative to monitors is having earbuds. A cheap method would be to have an FM transmitter and several cheap portable radios with those earbud headphones. I'm not sure how well that would work though. I know at a camp my youth group goes to in the summer (Student Life), instead of having monitors they all have those wireless earbuds.
