Creed's "My Sacrifice" Used For Worship

Question:
i have changed "i just want to say hello again" to "i just want to praise you lord again"... with that change.. would that make it alright to use for worship? i'm am my youth groups worship leader and i'm looking for new songs so... if you could help that'd be great
Answer:
Eh well, i geus that'd pass
Lookin fer new praise music? Get your hands on "Our love is loud" by Passion! And "Blessed" by Hillsongs when it comes out in July. Um, "EveryDay" by United Live has some good stuff on it too. -Adam
p.s. This is my lil non-peubescent Acura right?
Answer:
yep... "i could sing of your lvoe forever 2" has some good stuff on it too
Answer:
I would be weary of singing that song as a praise and worship song. Nothing against the song, it's one of my favorites, but people see it as a secular song and would hence not be enclined to praise God while singing it, but just sing it for the fun of it (even with the changed line). I think it would be better suited for a special music, or someting like that.
Answer:
I would stay away from secular songs with the lyrics changed. As was stated in the last post, people would see it as a secular song. It may be a cool song to play and a cool song to listen to, but it is definatley not a P/W song. By just changing a line does not make it a P/W song.
Answer:
I use it for that......but I keep the bridge cuz I turn away an come back so often its appropriate...
Answer:
i think it would be all right... it may be a secular song to begin with but if you changed the meaning of it so that you can use it to praise with, i dont think it would be hurting anything. just keep in mind that you want to use it so that you can worship through... not just something that you changed just so it is different
Answer:
1) Depends on the group. I would see a band who's trying to be cool, not a worship leader.
2) What does the song mean? I look at the lyrics, and the line "my sacrifice" doesn't seem to have any relevance to the song. Which, in my book, makes it useless babble. If you can find a meaning there, that's a plus. If you can't, why are you singing?
Answer:
you seen the music video? the whole song is where Scott sees that he has turned away from God and that he has paid the price for it, so he "wants to say hello again" to enjoy the presence of God again, so he can be free again.....
Answer:
when he says "my sacrifice" he talking about jesus how he was that eternal sacrifice for us just as the lamb in moses' day was was a temporary sacrifice
Answer:
that may be what you see the song mean, but according to Scott himself in an interview, none of their songs take on religious meanings intentionally. the band denies ever writing any song about God or christian beliefs. the song is great and can be looked at many different ways, but i promise you, Creed did not write that song with the meaning you say.

Hi Acura8591
I really liked your post. Most likely because it is so very contreversial (Sorry for my spelling)
My name is Jeffrey. I am 16 year old. At my youth we sing the song Higher-Arms Wide open and My Sacrifice. I am on our worship team and i have thought many times about whether it is right to do secular music. I have listened to many different opinions on the topic and have learned many things.
The song "My Sacrifice" lyrcs are great as is. We as christians can interperate them in one way but a non christian another way.
That is one of the main things you have to think about...
I have seen in a MTV interview that Creed said there songs do not take on a Relegious mean but a Spiritual meaning,,, Whatever that means i am not sure but what i do know is that there are songs that are written that have an absolutly incredable anointing on them.... God of Wonders...ect. When we do My Sacrifice at my youth i have never seen such instuntanious worship. Kids are lifting there hands in worship to God...:ksmile:
You know ultimetly its a personal desicion about whether or not you want to do a song like this,,, I know at my youth we even do "The Calling:Wherever You Go" but The one really good peice of advice i could give you is
PRAY!!!!!!!! If you feel that God is releasing you to do the song i am sure it will be right
As for songs if you dont feel you need to do My Sacrifice
-City on a hill
- Sonic Flood
Jeff Deyo
-Delirious
-United Live
-Matt Redman
-David Ruis
-Passion
Chris Tomlin
Third Day
DC talk
REBBECA St. James
and the list goes on and on//////
God Bless, i hope you find some answer-
peace-Jeffers

That doesn't make any sense when we sing it though. If we're talking about Jesus' sacrifice, how does it make sense to sing "My Sacrifice" and how does that fit into the rest of the song at all?
Keep in mind that when Creed wrote this song, they wrote it to a secular audience. They did not write this song to Christians, did not write it as a praise song. Therefore, i would be VERY wary about singing any song by Creed or any band viewed as secular.
And "Higher" or "With Arms Wide Open" as praise songs are not the best choices in my opinion. With Arms Wide Open is a song written about Stapp's son. And I could totally understand the song being sung as us being the son, but it is still a song from God's perspective, and those songs are a bit awkward to me. Higher seems like a more new-age type of song.
Answer:
at superWOW this year, the theme is 'Worth is All' and before the night session, they play the movie for it and 'my sacrifice' is playing during the beginning of it
