Introducing Songs

Question:
What are your favorite ways to introduce songs? This is usually a trouble spot for me because everyone likes to rest on their laurals(sp?) and play the same songs over and over again.

Answer:
I usually introduce songs on Sunday mornings with the Jr Highers. Then, on Wednesday nights I will do the song again. If it's a faster song, then I'll play it first, but if it's a slower song, I'll do it last. It really all depends on the tempo and lyrics when to put the song where it sounds good and meets the mood of the worship setting.
Answer:
a few suggestions, you can try one or more:
1. if you play cds/music before and after the service, put the song in the rotation a few weeks before you actually introduce it. it will add an element of familiarity.
2. do the song as a special music/anthem/offertory a week or two before.
3. flat out introduce it. tell the congregation you want to teach them a new song because it has particular meaning to todays service. bring out scripture/explain the song. play through the chorus or first verse one time then ask them to join you and repeat it.
thats what i do.

Answer:
Those are all great points. I sometimes play it during our prayer meeting on the Thursday before I'm due to lead worship on a Sunday.
Answer:
We generally just do it... after you play it for a couple of weeks people will know it just as well as they do almost any other song. I often find people really get into worship in a song they have never heard before, just as they do with an old song which you sing each week.
Answer:
Yup, all of the above as well as playing 'em through as the church is filling up before the service.

-Kenny Hi Kenny C...
Two ways. One is to begin playing the song before and after the service two weeks ahead over the sound system or with a small acoustic group of 3-4 people, and then have someone sing it as a piece before the sermon the week before.
The second way is to introduce it as a devotional piece at the end of our service for our antiphonal worship team. This team closes our services with a mix of singing a chorus, and then free singing woven together with scripture and prayer.
It is not a time we expect people to sing along like the worship set at the beginning of the service. It is 10-15 minutes of worship using only one song. Good time to introduce new songs...and people then have heard it.
