Jesus sings in worship with us!
Question: Did you guys know that Jesus sings in worship with us? Hebrews 2:12. Answer: Ummm... no. Answer: Originally Posted by Nate Ummm... no. lol, i agree.. i'd like to see this defended from a theological standpoint. the point of using that quote from the psalms was NOT saying that Jesus sings along with us. Answer: Hebrews 2:12 says that Jesus will sing "our praise" unto the church, meaning basically if we are not ashamed of Him, He will not be ashamed of us and will declare us to be His brethren. The context of this verse does not, nor does the verse, indicate that Jesus sings along with us (He may, but this verse does not refer to that). Originally Posted by Matt4JC the point of using that quote from the psalms was NOT saying that Jesus sings along with us. Actually it was from Hebrews Answer: Originally Posted by WorshipJesus Did you guys know that Jesus sings in worship with us? Hebrews 2:12. Read that again....slowly. Answer: Lol, this is gonna end up in the apologetics forum. if you guys say that Jesus doesn't sing with us, then please explain what "in the midst of the assembly" means. Answer: Who does Jesus sing to if He sings along with us? Why would He worship Himself? Answer: Originally Posted by Nate Why would He worship Himself? because he is God? Kind of a weird idea, because He would be singing to Himself in a way. This definitely does not show that He sings along with us in worship though. :) If we think of worship in terms of "ascribing greatness or glory", then I suppose you can say that God can "worship" himself. He should, like we should, ascribe greatness and glory to whom it is due, and that is Himself! When you take the "service" part of worship into consideration... well, I don't know if God can serve and submit to Himself. I do suppose the Son submits to the will of the Father, but I'm not sure if Jesus submits to the Father in the exact same sense that we submit ourselves to God. I don't know if Jesus sings along with us, but He definitely sings! Zephaniah 3:17. It must be something to hear God sing. With merely a spoken word from God, the heavens and earth came into being. Something big must happen if He burst out into song! Definitely an interesting subject. :) Soli Christo, Jeff Answer: Originally Posted by Nate I'm confused now. john piper reall does a wonderful job of explaining this. basically, it comes down to the fact that God is God centered. He is not man centered. think about it this way (and this is gonna sound WAY worse than i mean it to- sorry in advance). if God is man centered and we worship God, are we God centered or man centered. it's a tough concept no doubt- hope that help. piper's first sermon in the third session of passion '05 deals directly with this. Answer: I still don't see how God could worship Himself. That doesn't even make sense. Doesn't the very act of worship presume a difference of glories? God's glory is higher than man's glory, and, thus, we worship Him. God's glory is higher than the angels' glory, and, thus, they worship Him. God's glory is not higher than His own glory. Why would God need to ascribe glory to Himself? Why would He need to "kiss towards" Himself? Why would God need to proclaim His divine attributes to Himself? Oh... and about John Piper... #1: "What is this? John Piper never said that crap could be holy. Is this some sort of humor joke?" #2: "You know, you really should look to the Bible for your theology, not John Piper. He's not God." #1: "John Piper is God, too. His word is on the same level as Scripture." #2: "How can you say that? That's heresy? That's... Ouch! You're hurting me! Stop it!" In His love, Nate Answer: that's cool- you asked a question, i answered it with my (abbreviated, as i stated) understanding. i'd also like to read myself where i said that john piper was my spiritual authority- i believe i stated that he had delivered what i thought was a good explanation. i guess i don't get the implied attack, but hey, whatever, that's why it's the internet now isn't it. we done.
