Offerings and Offertories

Question:
Howdy, new guy here. I don't know if this has been covered here lately, but I'd love to know how you handle the offering time at your church. We will soon be adding an offering time (with basic instrumental music) as part of our regular worship service, instead of a tithes and offerings box in the foyer.

At our church, the choir normally does an anthem.
Welcome, btw
Answer:
We usually sing a song while the plates are being passed.
Answer:
We ususally work up a short instrumental jam to play during this time (fairly small church, so it only takes about a minute to collect offering). It's always based off of a song that we've already sung in the service.

Answer:
We (the band) sing a song. Usually one that we're trying to introduce to the congregation so they can hear it before they have to try to sing it.
Answer:
We usually do a congregational song. Sometimes introduce a new song. Less often, we will do a solo.
Answer:
Usually it's a congregational piece. But before the offering collection begins, we suggest to the folk that once the plate has been passed, to please stand and join us in song. Alternatively, if it's a hymn, we sing two to three verses sitting and then invite the congregation to rise on the last verse.
Answer:
More often than not, a well either have a soloist with a CD, or us playing. (Usually a CD, because the people who sing the solos don't prepare in enough time that they should). Sometimes it'll be a congregational song, and even less time it'll be instrumental.
