Community collaboration idea I've been thinking about
Question: I've had this idea in my head for months, but I haven't done anything about it until now. With all of the talented songwriters in here, we oughta get together and make one great worship song (more later, if it goes well). Something simple and straightforward, yet unique and catchy. I'm thinking... - Semi-fast paced song, along the lines of Chris Tomlin's "Forever". - Standard song set-up, like - Verse 1, Chorus, Verse 2, Chorus, Bridge, Chorus. Nothing too out of the ordinary there. - Standard tuning, so it's easy for others to play. - Fairly simple chords, although some optional runs or something would be alright. We can be creative with the order of the chords, of course. - No one would "own" it in any way. Not you, not me, not the site. The song would be completely copyright-free, including all lyrics and MP3s made from it. I figure we can start by choosing a passage to base it on, come up with some preliminary lyrics, then start going from there. We'd need people to be able to record and post MP3s of the song so others could hear their ideas for the melody. The idea won't be to make a great MP3, though - just a great song for others to play. Of course, a decent MP3 of the final version would make it easier for others to learn it. I figure if we come up with something good, I can post it on the front of the site as a great free resource for youth groups to use. "Here is a new song - here are the chords, here are the lyrics, here is an MP3. Enjoy" Thoughts? Answer: I think that is a great idea. It will be a challenge, but i think if some us of really buckle down and stay diligent with the song, we'll be able to pull if off. Answer: I'm interested already. Answer: we need drum tracks... Count me in if you do something like this... What I am good for is rythymn guitar, secondary guitar work,(atmospheric stuff) and improv leads around the melody. that and mixing and such. That stuff is all great, but my idea for this is to create a song that can be played one guitar for a youth group. Not many youth groups have full bands, but most youth groups sing P&W songs at their gatherings. That being said, we could say "here are the chords, and a sample MP3. For those that have more resources, here is the bass tab, drum tab, lead guitar and a full MP3". Something like that. I'd say we should develop the basic song first, get it finished, then look at adding the cool stuff to it. Answer: How about Psalm 15 as a text? *EDIT* I MEANT Psalm 15 Answer: Ok, let's take a look: -- Psalm 15 (NIV) -- "1 LORD, who may dwell in your sanctuary? Who may live on your holy hill? 2 He whose walk is blameless and who does what is righteous, who speaks the truth from his heart 3 and has no slander on his tongue, who does his neighbor no wrong and casts no slur on his fellowman, 4 who despises a vile man but honors those who fear the LORD , who keeps his oath even when it hurts, 5 who lends his money without usury and does not accept a bribe against the innocent. He who does these things will never be shaken." I see some nice potential there. Thoughts? Answer: I think this sounds like a great idea. I'll do some thinking and check back in. -Nick Answer: We were helping another guy with this same style-ish idea earlier s your timing couldn't better!^_^, I think this catch on really well. worship songs are supposed to bring you back to that time when God came to dwell in you right? some worship songs i feel that with but the fact that it's one or 2 people's experience or thoughts i know henders some guys i know from getting into worship songs cause they can't find their own relation to the song. i think if alot of people come together to write a few that it might help the Christian community as a whole. God bless. Answer: I think I shall Stikify this...It sounds awesome and it shouldn't lag to the bottom since it's going to be a project in the Songwriting area...Rock on Mickey! Answer: I have some lyrical ideas. I figured I stick pretty close to the passage, and just see what you guys think. Lord, who may dwell in your sanctuary? who may sit upon your hill? he whose walk is blameless he who does what is righteous he who speaks the truth from his heart and keeps harsh words from his tongue Lord, who may dwell in your sanctuary? who may worship in your presence? he whose walk is blameless he who does what is righteous he who honors those who fear the Lord and keeps his promises Lord, who may dwell in your sanctuary? who may stand in your temple? he whose walk is blameless he who does what is righteous (x2) he who does these things will never be shaken I've written music to this as well.. as soon as I record some of it, I'll post it to see what you guys think. Answer: Okay.. here's a recording. Hah.. it sounds bad, but I just wanted to let you guys hear what I was thinking of. Answer: blast it, I can't open the wav. Oi. I think we should have several people write a song derived from this text in their own style and then do one of two things; 1) pick out the best one, ala the song of the month voting process. 2) take the best elements from each song and have one of the better writers streamline them into one song. The second one would be much harder. Either way, I'd like to help somehow, seeing as this is too cool an idea to not help with... Answer: i can't get it to play either, but the lyrics look really good. one of the true questions to address is when to start???The other of course is how to pull this together. we might be able to divide up into teams working in a couple of different threads off the same theme and see how it each turns outs and have the members vote on the better ones???Don't really know how to do this cause there are alot of people to organize this between. Thanks for listening to my rambling. God bless. Answer: I'd love to be involved. It sounds like an awesome idea. We could totally do this Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.thanktoday.com
